The Syrian Conflict in Five Minutes, By Wilson Liévano and Bombillo Amarillo

In March 2011, thousands took to the streets all over Syria to demand reforms, following the example of popular uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen.

The government of Bashar Al-Assad responded with force, triggering a civil war that has claimed the lives of over 60.000 Syrians in the last two years and brought misery to both sides of the conflict.

This animation explains how the conflict started, what are its roots, what is the role of the international community and what could be the outcome of the war.

This animation was developed by Wilson Liévano  and Bombillo Amarillo, while Mr. Liévano, a reporter with the Wall Street Journal, was in resident at Stanford University as a John S. Knight Fellow (2012/2013).
