‘I was abandoned in political wilderness’ says Iwuanyanwu

‘I was abandoned in political wilderness’ says Iwuanyanwu

He formally declared interest in becoming PDP spokesman.

Following Thursday’s resignation of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh; a member of the party from Imo State, Chyna Iwuanyanwu, has formally declared his interest to occupy the position at the party’s mini-convention next month.

Mr. Iwuanyanwu stated his intention to enter the race in Abuja on Friday at a news conference.

Mr. Metuh and about 15 other national officers of PDP resigned their position during the 61stmeeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party; following the report of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which flawed their elections at the March 2012 National Convention.

NEC also approved the appointments of other members of the party to act in their positions until the mini convention is conducted on July 15.

Mr. Iwuanyanwu, who was a frontline contender for the position last year, said he bowed to the choice of the super delegates and the South East Caucus of the party, which asked him to withdraw, but regretted that he was thereafter abandoned in a political wilderness.

“In 2012, I was the frontline contender for the office of the National Publicity Secretary. In spite of my massive campaign across the country, I had to bow to the choice of the super delegates and the South East Caucus of the party,” he said.

“Since then I have been abandoned in a political wilderness like a political orphan.

“With the recent development and the prospects and guarantee of an open transparent election, I have decided to offer myself again for election as the National Publicity Secretary of this great party because I know I have all the credentials to make that necessary difference.

“What the party needs is a brand master and with God on my side I will be that oracle of change,” he added.

The aspirant said since the developments which led to the exit of the party officials, he has been inundated, overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of goodwill and support by eminent PDP leaders and national delegates from across the country, urging him to declare his interest again as a candidate for the position.

According to him, things have fallen apart in PDP and it has gone through unprecedented period of trials and tribulation, conflicts and crises, characterised by disharmony, disloyalty, gross indiscipline, outright rebellion, turbulence, bitterness, rancour and acrimony and the manifestation of strange pedigrees totally unknown and strange to the party.

He added, “It is imperative that something drastic has to be done to save our party from the drift and ominous clouds that have gathered in the horizon.

“The situation was also compounded by the INEC report which indicted the process through which some members of the NWC were elected at the 2012 National Convention.

“It is in consideration of the above environment and challenges that I welcome the recent development as an act of God and a divine intervention to save our party.”

Mr. Iwuanyanwu said as a professional with over 30 years experience, it has always been his belief that so much of good politics is effective public communication; to connect the people to the manifesto of the ruling party and the agenda of the government under its platform.
