Boko Haram declares war on Borno, Yobe youth over vigilante activities

Boko Haram has become Nigeria's biggest headache of the moment

The Boko Haram leader said they now see the youth as their enemies.

A spokesperson for the Boko Haram, Abu Zinnira, has said his group will launch a manhunt for youth in Borno and Yobe states who partake in vigilante activities to identify and arrest members of the terrorist group.

Some youth in both states have formed vigilante groups to assist the Nigerian military to identify and arrest the terrorists in the towns. Their activities have been commended by the presidency and the military; but has now put them in a battle with the terrorists.

Abu Zinnira said his group is also waging a bloody war against the government of Borno and Yobe States in reaction to the massive arrest of their members by youth in the states.

The terrorists’ spokesman, stated these in a statement written in Hausa and emailed to journalists.

He added that they are waging a war against the Nigerian state in order to establish a Sharia legal system. He said while they maintain their hostility against the police, soldiers, politicians and other symbols of authority, they have now added the youth in these states to their kill-list.

“We have established that the youth in Borno and Yobe states are now against our course. They have connived with security operatives and are actively supporting the government of Nigeria in its war against us. We have also resolved to fight back,” he said.

Some members of the youth groups, who did not want their identity disclosed for security reasons, have also vowed to continue their fight against the Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri, saying that they will not be deterred from carrying out their mission and there will be no going back.

Borno and Yobe, as well as Adamawa, are under emergency rule with heavy deployment of soldiers by the federal government. This has, however, not stopped the terrorists who have killed dozens of people in separate attacks in the states.

This is the real test for the govt. If they betray the youths and allow them to be slaughtered by the insurgents, then the govt should prepare for a war on two fronts. This is also a lesson for the insurgents since if their violence directly or indirectly affects the innocent policeman and soldier or other citizens and not the big guns in Abuja who are wrecking the country, then people will have no alternative than to take up arms and defend themselves no matter the price. It is easy to see why people in Maiduguri will take up arms against the insurgents. The reason is that the real battle is in Borno while the criminals and those who enact policies that led to the battle are in Abuja.

whatsoever govt does; these youth must NOT be armed for long term reasons. but they must be supported. the havoc of boko haram’s end is near when the local people says the madness is enough- stop using our community as an expiriment field.

very funny that boko haram are now against the youth of borno, but are the youth robot? the whole state have been turned upside down. the youth cannot seek a little job to keep body and soul together but BH have guns and grenade to kill & rob!

the primary victims of the activities of boko haram is the people/youth whose community have been turned apart definitely NOT Abuja or Goodluck.

Stop, think , and be objective in your comments. It is very easy to abuse people when they can’t answer you back. I suggest you go down to your local mosque at prayer time and say the same thing – Good luck!

It is the height of gross irresponsibility for the JTF to sanction the use of vigilante groups in this battle against the BH. This will only complicate the situation and lead to tit-for-tat revenge killings. We know from bitter experience that these vigilante groups have a ‘lynch first and ask questions later’ modus operandi . The local population could be better utillized in an intelligence gathering role

The gruesome video killings of innocent civilians especially the young children, not by Boko Haram, but by the militias of the CJTF and the genocidal army, makes the CJTF-Nigerian army just as bad as Boko Haram, if not worse.

  • Yoko Zuna

The Nigerian army cannot even control the CJTF and this is the start of the Rwanda genocide in Nigeria…. Boko Haram against military, then the militia CJTF is used by the army, Boko Haram now targets the youth and the whole things then spiral out of control.
