Oyinlola, other Obasanjo loyalists lose bid to return to PDP leadership

Olagunsoye Oyinlola

Loyalists of former President Obasanjo lament judgement.

Moves by some suspended members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the South West to return to their positions suffered a setback on Friday as the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos rejected their appeal.

Those affected are the National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; National Auditor, Bode Mustapha; and the National Vice Chairman, South West, Segun Oni; all of whom are believed to be loyalists of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

They had asked the court to stay execution on the rulings of the lower courts which relieved them of their positions over improper election.

But the PDP, represented by its counsel, Joe Gadzama, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, asked the court to discontinue with the appeal saying PDP was no longer interested in it; a move which the three embattled former party chiefs resisted.

In its ruling, the three-member panel of the court made up of Monica Dongban-Mensem, Tijani and Ita Mbaba upheld the appeal for withdrawal.

Following Mr. Oyinlola’s sack, his deputy, Solomon Onwe has since stepped into the office in acting capacity; while Mr. Mustapha was replaced outright with Fatai Adeyanju.

In place of Mr. Oni, a former governor of Ekiti State, the ruling party also appointed a caretaker committee in the South West headed by Ishola Filani to pilot its affairs in the zone.

Their loss is seen as a loss by Mr. Obasanjo in his discreet bid to recover the machinery of the party in the zone.

Already, he has lost grip of the party in his home state, Ogun, as an executive committee of the party led by Dayo Bayo, and backed by a business mogul, Buruji Kasumu, is in charge of the party there.

Reacting to the ruling, Mr. Mustapha said “These judges ruled that I don’t have an appeal because my appeal has been withdrawn by Gadzama, the PDP lawyer and therefore that I cannot continue with the appeal.”

The former national auditor alleged that the court never considered the merit or otherwise of the suit, asking “Why was the appeal withdrawn in the first instance, does it mean that the appeal has no merit”.

Mr. Mustapha added that it has become clear that going by the ruling, Mr. Obasanjo and his loyalists are no longer wanted in the party.

With all what’s happening in the PDP there’s a clear indication that God wants to use GEJ to bring PDP to an end in Nigeria politics.Jonathan is an ingrate and destroyer not a builder. GEJ should remember that he’s paving way for his rival without knowing.I’m a PDP man but GEJ has made me to loose confidence in him and in PDP led administration. APC is what all nigerians are look @ now.

Please do not blame the man. It’s the people around him. Some of them don’t even take orders from him, but from his wife.

Have you not heard of what led to the suspension of the Sokoto governor?

The man is helpless and those around him are using his ignorance about the art of governance and his indolence to destry the country.

        God’ll save us.

Call yr self a doctor but cannot write simple oyibo for us to read–could be anoda Pat Kolawole of Canada–
Any way your troubles has to do with poverty of the soul and mind- Added to the fear of losing out on the economic front. Dead without the oil wells-that is another scareof u yours-Happily Nigerians have gone past these types of fake regional ideas-except the president is yoruba or fulani none should be allowed to air his views in 9ja–See, 9ja is not owned by the fulanis, ibos and yorubas-if the south west could betray Gani and abiola is it Jonathan that u the yorubas would love to hate? He is going to win in 2015.Jonathan did not create any economic crisis for us-the wahalal has been with us since oil was discoveredin 158-when u enjoyed 100 percent revenue from cocoa. We did not fight Awo-we supported him-so dont allow greed and tribalism to be your first name

Tambuwal should be dismissed from the PDP 4 anti party activities. A party without any iota of discipline is dead! Sadly for us, ANC preaches one thing and does another. ACN as a party is not only undemocratic but blatantly autocratic and makes no pretenses about it. We recall that only recently, its national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, asserted that whosoever is not pleased with the national leadership of the party’s way of running the ACN and in picking its candidates was free to leave the party. So why is APC acting as if the ongoing suspension in PDP is different from the vomit that the same ACN threw at its members? When they complained about the imposition of candidate on them by Tinubu-most especially his wife and in-laws,were they not asked to go to hell? Hear what Awo told his party faithfuls–( If any group of people fail to agree as to basic principles and as to the methods to be adopted in applying those principles, it is impossible for them to work within the same fold, and to submit themselves to party loyalty and discipline.) Thus any party whose members refuses to obey set rules and guide lines will never be able to achieve its objectives-in life! Tambuwal owes his allegiance to the PDP and not Buhari and tinubu-he it was who disobeyed party rules. In that the post of speaker was zoned to the Yorubas-but he came from behind to snatch it from their mouth with the active support of tinubu. Yet they the Yorubas are dancing owambe for Tinubu while they allege that that they don’t like Jonathan because he is not competent. Fine yet those Yorubas who claim to yearn for competence in governance, left Gani an incorruptible soul in the cold to vote for OBJ-Would the North have helped Tinubu to create APC if a Fulani man were to be president? I begi!

Just passing by but I have to drop this before moving on The hatred and name calling by the Yorubas is as senseless as BH bombings in the North. Under 3 years, President Jonathan has achieved in the SW and all over the country what your Yoruba god- Obasanjo could not achieve in 8 years. So honestly, if President Jonathan with his achievements is CLUELESS, pls produce an appropriate name for the COLOSSAL FAILURE from Yorubaland! and if you don’t shame on the entire Yoruba race! We all know that the Yorubas protested AGAINST President Jonathan in SUPPORT of the subsidy cabal-most of whom are Yorubas. God will judge you all and your Tinubu!
