Tsav lambasts Abati over Ribadu

Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati

The former Lagos Police chief lambasted the presidential aide.

A public affairs commentator and former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Tsav, has berated the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Public Affairs, Reuben Abati, over his attack on former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu.

Mr. Tsav, in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday, condemned the action of Mr. Abati whom, he said, left the substance of the discourse “to pursue the shadow by resorting to blackmail”.

He noted that Mr. Abati’s statement was full of contradiction and personal attack which betrayed his standing as a respected journalist and columnist.

According to the former Lagos Police boss, instead of calling Mr. Ribadu names like hypocrite and liar, the presidential adviser should have countered the statement by Ribadu that Nigeria is a sinking ship.

“Dr. Reuben Abati amuses me as the defender of indefensible by severally contradicting himself in order to keep his job. If Nuhu Ribadu said “Nigeria is sinking”, we expect the Presidency to say Nigeria is not sinking and to give reasons to convince Nigerians that Nigeria is not SINKING, rather than leave the substance to pursue the shadow by resorting to blackmail.

“If Ribadu is a hypocrite as alleged by Abati, is Nigeria truly not sinking? Is there no endemic corruption, insecurity, injustice, injustice, poor medical services, bad roads, dilapidated educational system, unemployment, disregard for the rule of law, culture of impunity etc in Nigeria?

“Dr Abati is a greater hypocrite. The Abati I used to know and admire at Rutam House is different from the Abati (Parrot) now in Aso Rock. Man must chop but lies negate the ethics of journalism,” the statement reads.

Mr. Abati had in very abusive language lambasted Mr. Ribadu, an opposition leader, over the latter’s comment, made while addressing students of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on Saturday.
