The Chairman of the National Governing Board of the NYSC said this on Wednesday.
The Chairman of the National Governing Board of the National Youths Service Corp (NYSC), Gordon Bozimo, has said the Federal Government is determined to improve the condition of corps members.
Mr. Bozimo told the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Wednesday that government was embarking on reforms geared toward improving the condition of service for corps members.
“For the time the problem of insecurity exists in the country, we do not intend to post corps members to those difficult areas.
“Before long, you will see great improvement in the condition of service of corps members, both in terms of their orientation and posting,” he said.
He said the aim of the programme was to unify the nation, saying that no security challenges would disrupt its implementation.
“The insecurity in the country will not last forever, but the NYSC programme is going to last for a very long time.
“The government on its part is taking steps in ensuring the safety of lives and properties of corps members,” he said.
Mr. Bozimo, who is also a Board of Trustee Member of the People’s Democratic Party, appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the Federal Government.
He urged Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan to deliver the dividends of democracy.
According to him, if Nigerians do not give the leaders the opportunity to lead, they may spend much of their tenure tackling political crisis and lesser time on the development.
“I will rather encourage constructive criticism that will enable the president fine-tune his policies rather than deriding languages against the administration and the presidency,” he said.
