Fashola should be grateful to FG for Lagos’ development- Maku

Lagos Governor, Babatunde Fashola

The minister said the Lagos governor virtually has nothing to do.

The Minster of Information, Labran Maku, on Monday at the kick-off of the 2013 ministerial platform in Abuja said Lagos is the luckiest of all the 36 states in Nigeria as it has benefitted so much from the Federal Government’s Infrastructure.

Mr. Maku said apart from Lagos, Edo is another state that has benefitted a lot from federal infrastructure.

The minister said Edo is benefitting entirely from federal roads while the Logos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has nothing significant to do in his state than mostly environmental and traffic maintenance.

Lagos and Edo are both controlled by the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria. The governors of the two states, Mr. Fashola and Adams Oshiomhole, respectively, were also very critical of the Nigeria Good Governance Tour (NGGT) initiated by Mr. Maku to monitor state and federal government projects across Nigeria.

Both governors and several Nigerians including Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, described the tour as unnecessary and a waste of funds.

“Edo State is benefitting entirely from federal roads, at the NGGT in Edo I could not recognize roads from my youth service days in the ‘80s, you could put your mat on the roads and sleep on it; all federal roads,” Mr. Maku said.

“Lagos too rests on federal infrastructure, the governor of Lagos has nothing significant to do aside environmental sanitation; Lagos state is the Luckiest state, even the BRT lanes are on federal government roads,” Mr. Maku added.

He also emphasized his earlier claims that the just concluded Nigeria Good Governance Tour by his ministry was not a lone party tour but involved all the political parties in the country as it was an initiative accepted by all the governors of the 36 states of Nigeria.

He called on all Nigerians, supporters and critics, to be open minded to the Jonathan administration; stating that the administration is on the path of national transformation and has nothing to hide.

The day’s event, which entertained scorecards from the Ministries of Transport and Works, revealed successes in various projects and in both ministry.

The Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, said that the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is collaborating with Nigerian Navy to check criminal activities on the nation’s waterways. While NIMASA makes provision for logistics, the Navy provides security and arms needed to secure the waterways.

The Minister of works, Mike Onolememen, revealed that 32 road projects have so far been completed. He said that efforts were being made towards enforcing a transport policy in the country.

He explained that no work has been done by the Ministry of Works on the Abuja – Keffi Road, which has been a major concern for most people working in the Nigerian capital, because the Abuja ministry is expected to provide additional access into Abuja.

He also said that construction of access roads to the four refineries in the country were in progress. He said the access to Warri refinery was 100 per cent complete, while others were under construction.

This is a terrible statement from the minister, what about the northern states like Kaduna, kano Katsina, Niger, Plateau Borno etc who build the roads there is it state governments? You don’t need to tell lies because you want to talk

  • Ene

Is the Federal Government not responsible for the development of infrastructure in all states? Or does Maku think that the nearly 50% revenue allocation that his Oga at the top collects is only meant to pay his salary and for his PDP brothers to steal the balance? Maku is very stupid! He is suffering from diareah of the mouth and if he’s not careful, it can turn into cancer of the mouth.

  • nija pikin

Asz pls moderate ur response its not the people from these state you mention that made that unfortunate statement its the maku of GEJ failed govt they always give a beautiful excuse for their failure and lack of any achievements, you sometimes think their excuses for failure sounds like achievements, if they( FG) can have 20% of fashola`s achievements nigeria would be a better place than it is.

    • paul

FASHOLA GOVERNMENT is more failed than FG, go TO MUSHIN, COME TO see Allen Avenue / Opebi when little rain drop.

Fashola is a great pretender who want to be heard after been kept down below the chair by his drug pusher godfather TINUBU

      • Sadiq Garba

        This is bad belle.
True Lagosians would not feel you.

  • Oweja

Frankly, I agree that Fashola should be grateful to FG for Lagos’ development. Has the FG any obligation to care for Lagos? Did Lagosians vote for GEJ? Besides, is Lagos not made up of illegal aliens from Uganda? Let’s face it, the FG’s responsibility is to cater for only Nigerians, not Lagosians. You see, when Maku speaks, let us listen, he is not stupid, he is always right.

  • Mamman Bako

Is this man high on something?!

  • Tuned

    Look stupid, talk stupid……

  • we nogo die

Maku is an illiterate who has never spent one week in Lagos apart from maybe official assignments that takes him to hotels in vi on taxpayers fund. Or else he is as mischievous as pdp to open his mouth like that

    • Sadiq Garba

Dr Rabiu is not and can never qualify for a criminal.
We have a system that is working in Kano.
Dr Rabiu is not like every other governor. God has reason for bringing him back after leaving government house for 8 years.
He has learnt a lot of lessons from outside the government house, which most of the governors were not previledged to learn.
Kano is working. Nigerians don’t need Maku or Jonathan to know that Kano is working.

  • Sadiq Garba

Assuming the statement by Maku is true. Can we then hail Fashola for being the only attraction that can make FG discharge a little part of its statutory responsibilities?

  • Nosa

Men people can change .ooooo,,,, Now is it money or position that badly affected this Maku of a man? This is one of the reasons we keep saying Jonathan can never achieve anything as long as he continues to surround himself with these criminals. We all remember the way he used to talk about national assembly until he was cut to size the leadership of the house. Anyway this is Nigeria, a country of anything goes….
