Patience Jonathan did not ask PDP to suspend Amaechi, presidency says

Patience Jonathan

The presidency described the report as ‘laughable.’

The Presidency has denied allegations that the First Lady, Patience Jonathan, influenced the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, by the National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

It described as ‘laughable’ reports that the first lady handed the suspension instruction to the National Working Committee of the PDP, which suspended the Rivers Governor.

The Special Assistant to Mrs. Jonathan on Media, Ayo Osinlu claimed the report was a calculated attempt to sustain Mr. Amaechi’s travails in public domain, as well as to explore the possibility of keeping public sympathy in his favour.

Although she has no constitutional powers, Nigerian first ladies are known to wield tremendous influence over state and party organs and are considered most powerful outside of the president.

Mr. Amaechi has been having a running battle with the PDP leadership and the presidency over his stance on major national issues.

Though recently elected as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, the loser in the election, Jonah Jang of Plateau, allegedly with the backing of the presidency, has declared himself chairman. The Rivers Governor was suspended by the PDP days after his re-election as NGF chairman.

Even before his present travails, he had had an exchange of words with the first lady, who is from Rivers State, over some of his policies in the state.

The full statement by Mr. Osinlu reads: “It has again come to our notice that a new twist has been introduced to the carefully orchestrated scheme to anchor the political fortunes or survival of certain embattled politicians on a deliberate demonization of the First Lady, Dame (Dr.) Patience Goodluck Jonathan.

“This new twist came by way of a so-called “investigation” reported on the front page of today’s, 30/05/2013, Leadership newspaper.

“According to the report, the First Lady, as characteristic these days, is being alleged to have influenced the suspension of Governor Rotimi Amaechi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

“We consider it laughable that it can be assumed by any sane person that the First Lady could possibly “summon” the members of the NWC of the party for the purported purpose of handing down “stern directives” on crucial party decisions.

“We ask, on what platform? Within what contexts? In what capacity? Is it not an unfortunate insult on all the elders that constitute the NWC to insinuate that they were assembled by the First Lady, or anyone else for that matter, and instructed on positions of the party? And why couldn’t Leadership’s “investigators” name at least a few of those in attendance of this famous meeting?

“We consider it a most unbecoming insolence, to say the least DISRESPECTFUL, of any one to suggest that the whole of the Peoples Democratic Party was led by the nose and influenced by a private interest, in a matter that so evidently borders on party discipline and administration.

“Only recently, we were compelled to make a statement, warning those who have become specialists in looping their self-induced political travails around the First Lady, to develop another strategy for their survival.

“This was when another vicious lie was circulated that Her Excellency had, again, “summoned” service chiefs in Rivers State, and instructed them to be firmer in handling the Rivers matter.

“Let us state once again, that the First Lady is not an elected official of state, neither is she a party functionary. She therefore recognizes very clearly her place in the scheme of things and acts always accordingly within context.

“In our safe estimation, the whole of this is a conscious calculation to sustain the issue of Governor Amaechi in full public view, as well as to explore the possibility of keeping public sympathy in his favour.

“While we have no challenges with the Amaechi camp struggling for political survival and relevance, we wish to state categorically our strong objection to the wicked use of the name and profile of the First Lady in the process.

“For us this is not only dubious, but also diversionary, unfair, unkind, and therefore totally unacceptable.

“We wish to warn that if this trend continues in the near and distant future, we may be constrained to take action within legally permissible limits to protect the integrity of the office and person of the First Lady”.

Of course they will tarnish Patient Jonathan’s name out of pettiness not only from Amaechi and his hirelings but also from journalists who have been collecting fat envelopes from Brick House to keep Amaechi in the news as a ‘performing governor’. Those who came from Rivers State know that it is still a one township state irrespective of the massive allocation from the central government. Let Amaechi and his gang of desperadoes know what consensus means. It was on the basis of ‘consensus’ that those who wanted to contest against him for the 2011 gubernatorial election stepped aside because he was the annointed candidate of the PDP. How come Amaechi contested for the chairmanship of the NGF when his party, the PDP, had a consensus candidate in the person of Jonah Jang? That is the basic question Amaechi and his supporters should address. It is no use over-flogging the issue of a so called ‘Amaechi’ victory to rubbish the PDP which had stood by Amaechi through thick and thin. More qualified candidates like Abiye Sekibo left PDP for Amaechi in 2011. Why can’t Amaechi allow the consensus will of his party to prevail if he were not a selfish individual? Amaechi will ruin the South-South and the Jonathan Presidency. But Amaechi should know that his adopted Rivers State, a South-South state has been fair to him more than he is willing to acknowledge. The elders of PDP in Rivers State implored Amaechi not to contest NGF chairmanship but it fell on deaf ears. His authentic native land, Abriba, is in the South-East, hence the time has come for Ohaneze, which represents the most populous ethnic group in the old Eastern Nigeria to wade into the matter and call the upstart, Amaechi, to order.

Amaechi has become so empty, he now thinks the only way for him to remain relevant in the scheme of APC is to cook up fake stories for gullible 9jas to swallow here-why is amaechi refusing to ask simple questions–Obj used Odili-took him to the UN and told the world how rich he was!collected billions of naira from him with the promise of making him president-then arranged with ribadu to have his throat cut-now fools like amaechi has neglected the work he was elected to perform and is dancing with the same devils that used ibori, and alams-then dumped them into the gulag of our oppressors-Amaechi will never get any where with his evil plans–against jonathan–he is out telling all those who yearn to enslave the ppl of the south south that jonathan is after him cause he is not ijaw-is sylva not ijaw? who introduced the youths in the south south to cultism-was it not amaechi and odlili-even a donkey will not believe such rubbish –he should leave the poor woman alone! and go face the wrath of the gods in rivers-let him go take a look at the port harcourt international airport for a change–monkey

I mean I can’t just imagine anyone seeing Patience of being so powerful that she can order around a political party’s national body when the President can only work to get their support and buy in on an issue to act???!
It is a clear signal on how degerated Amaechi has gotten and shows clearly that ACN (yet to be registered APC) propaganda machine is at work as the style and content bears their trademark!

Desperate or not, with the kind of power the first wives of both the state and national executives weird, it will not be out of place for patiemama to summon ANYTHING to the villa. Are you telling me that if she summon them to the villa where there is sumptuous food and GMG bags to share, these ever hungry people will not go? What on earth can make an image maker who is supposed to be managing the perceptions of the public say bluntly that he does not care what Nigerians think? If he does not care, what is he doing in that office. An image maker can ONLY say this under the command of an ignoramus or else he is the ignoramus himself. Case closed.
