Sambo to commission new secretariat for Jang’s faction of Nigeria Governors Forum

Vice President Namadi Sambo

The new office is located in the highbrow Maitama area of Abuja.

Despite the claim by the presidency that it is playing a neutral role in the crisis rocking the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Vice President, Namadi Sambo, will on Thursday evening commission the new secretariat of a faction of the forum, led by the governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang.

The new office is located in the highbrow Maitama area of Abuja.

Mr. Jang declared himself winner of the NGF election despite video evidence that proved that Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, won the election by 19 votes to Mr. Jang’s 16. The presiding officer in the election also confirmed the result.

The president, Goodluck Jonathan, has been accused of having a hand in the factionalisation of the NGF by supporting Mr. Jang. In response to this accusation, the president’s spokesperson, Reuben Abati, denied Mr. Jonathan’s involvement in the NGF elections, stating that the presidency supported no candidate for the election.

But the expected commissioning by Mr. Sambo of Mr. Jang’s factional secretariat indicates where the presidency’s support lies.
