Group accuses Nigerian Judiciary of illegal appointments of Industrial Court judges

The group stated this in a petition by Dino Melaye.

A group, Anti- Corruption Network, on Monday accused the National Judicial Council (NJC) of illegal appointment of Judges to the National Industrial court (NIC).

In a petition signed by its Executive Secretary, Dino Melaye, the organization said it had confirmed that the NJC recently approved the nomination of 12 judges to the NIC.

President Goodluck Jonathan also recently approved the appointment of the judges.

Drawing the attention of the National Chairman of the NJC to the illegality of the appointments, Mr. Melaye, a former federal lawmaker, stated that none of the 12 appointed lawyers are qualified to hold such offices.

He accused Babatunde Adejumo, President of the Industrial Court of deliberately deceiving

the NJC by submitting a list of unqualified persons.

While calling on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Aloma Muhktar, to review the illegal appointment and save the NJC from any embarrassment, he also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to withdraw the nomination of the 12 judges as it is against the law and not in conformity with the provisions of the NIC Act.
