FCT threatens to revoke undeveloped parks

Bala Mohammed, FCT Minister

The minister says the condition under which the parks were leased must be complied with.

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Bala Mohammed, on Saturday advised park operators to develop their parks or risk having them revoked.

The minister, who gave the warning, said efforts must be made to develop the parks in accordance with the conditions they were leased on.
In stern warning to park operators, the minister said, “It is highly advisable that any park operator that earlier had genuine documents through Public bidding or Ministerial Approval, should endeavor to develop them under the conditions within which it was granted or risk being revoked.”
The minister said the lease was neither supposed to be transferred or sold out to a third party.

Mr. Mohammed said all Certificates of Occupancy for Parks & Garden in the Territory are domiciled in the Department of Parks and Recreation in the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council.

He said that the FCT Administration would not release title document on any Park & Garden within the 8,000 square kilometers of the Federal Capital Territory to any operator because such areas are only being sub-leased and would be taken back at the expiration of the lease period depending on activity on such areas.

According to him, the activity on such parks determines the lease period, between 5 and 35 years.
