The police displayed the corpses of the suspects.
The Adamawa State Police Command in the early hours of Sunday killed six suspected armed robbers believed to part of the gang that has been terrorising the state capital in recent times.
Briefing journalists at the police headquarters in Yola on Sunday morning, the police spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammed displayed the corpses of the six men.
Mr. Mohammed said an arrested member of the gang provided information on the whereabouts of the others on Friday.
He stated that following the information on the gang’s hideout in Jambutu, a suburb of Jimeta, the police stormed the area. On sighting the police, the gang opened fire on the police and the police responded killing six of them.
He said some the suspected criminals escaped with bullet wounds.
Mr. Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, advised members of the public to report anybody with bullet wounds to the police. He also urged hospitals to report any cases of bullet wounds to the police before treatment.
Earlier on Friday, shortly after afternoon Jumat prayers, the gang struck but were repelled by youth who had just observed the prayers along Mohammed Mustapha Road killing two of the gang members.
The action of the youth led to the arrest of one of the members who gave the police the information on the hideout.
While assuring the public of their safety, the police spokesperson said the police will not rest until the hoodlums in the state are arrested. He also tasked the public to assist the police with useful information.
