Two pilots aboard a Nigerian Air Force jet died from the crash.
The Northern States Governors Forum, NSGF, has commiserated with the Chief of Air Staff and the entire Nigerian military over Monday’s fatal crash of a Nigerian Air Force jet which occurred at Dargol, near Niamey in the Republic of Niger.
The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu on Tuesday described as a national loss, the death of the two pilots who were aboard the aircraft when it crashed.
In a statement signed by Governor Aliyu’s spokesperson, Danladi Ndayebo, the forum said the deceased Nigerian Air Force personnel were heroes who died in the course of a patriotic duty, and prayed that God will grant repose to their souls and give their families and friends the fortitude to bear the loss.
The forum applauded the nation’s military high command which is reported to have begun investigation “to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.”
“It is our hope that a thorough investigation would be carried out so that the cause or causes could be unraveled and the safety of military personnel ensured,’’ the forum said.
