The APGA convention is holding in Awka, Anambra State.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has elected a new national chairman, Maxi Okwu.
Mr. Okwu, who has led the party in interim capacity in the last two months, was elected at the party’s convention in Akwa, Anambra State.
He reportedly secured 790 votes to defeat another candidate, Uzodike who had 90 votes at the convention holding at the Women and Children Development Centre.
The convention is being attended and supported by some leaders of a faction of APGA including Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, and former Information Minister, Dora Akunyili.
Another faction of the party led by the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, is, however, not part of the convention; and has declared its intention to merge with three other parties to form the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr. Okwu was first appointed interim chairman, after an Enugu High Court sacked the former party chairman, Victor Umeh, saying the latter’s tenure as had lapsed. Mr. Umeh has appealed the court’s ruling.
