Join PDP, Jonathan tells opposition parties

President Jonathan and party chiefs at a PDP National Convention

President Jonathan says the PDP is the only party that aims at transforming Nigeria.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday in Abuja called on members of the opposition to join the Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr. Jonathan made the invitation at the grand finale of PDP National Reconciliation and Consolidation Tour undertaken by the National Working Committee of the party.

He was represented by the Vice-President Namadi Sambo, who said the PDP is the only party with a clear goal.

“It is the only party with a clear conscience and manifesto aimed at transforming our dear country for good,” Mr. Sambo said on behalf of the president.

He also called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to build upon the strength of the party by embarking on people-oriented projects and programmes in each tier of government.

“The laudable programmes of the PDP administration at all the three tiers of government, coupled with the respect for rule of law, good governance and democratic tenets, will continue to serve as the party’s trademark,” he said.

Mr. Jonathan urged the PDP members to carry the trademark wherever they go as “a good product sells itself”.

He enjoined the members to shun those bent on destroying the party through anti-party activities and be united to strengthen the party.

He commended the party’s National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, for embarking on the tour of the six geo-political zones in line with the party’s Reconciliation, Reformation and Rebuilding agenda.

Earlier, Mr. Tukur had described the party leaders’ gathering as unique and momentous as it was the first time the National Working Committee of the party embarked on such a tour.

“The gathering also coincided with the celebration of the National Working Committee’s one year in office,” he noted.

Mr. Tukur called on the members to foster unity and reposition the party for greater heights.

The goodwill messages were delivered by the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswill Akpabio, Idris Wada of Kogi and some others.

The occasion also witnessed the cutting of cake to mark the one year anniversary of the NWC of the party.
