Amos Adamu accused of plotting Nigeria’s failure in CAF election

Maigari failed in his bid to become a CAF Executive Committee Member.

A former Gombe State Football Association Chairman, Gara Gombe, has accused Amos Adamu, the suspended executive member of the Federation of International Football Federation, FIFA, and the Confederation of African Football, CAF, of planning the failure of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, President, Aminu Maigari, at the recently held CAF elections.

Mr. Gombe made this accusation on the African Independent Television, AIT, programme, Kakaaki.

He said Mr. Adamu, a former Director-General of the Nigeria Sports Commission, should be blamed for Mr. Maigari’s loss in the CAF election.

Mr. Maigari lost to his Benin Republic opponent, Moucharafou Anjorin, in the election held over the weekend as part of the CAF Congress in Morocco.

Mr. Gombe has, therefore, called on the Federal Government to institute a panel to investigate Mr. Adamu’s involvement in the CAF executive election.

He said it is unfortunate that individual interest is allowed to override national interest, saying the cabals in CAF will not allow a credible person to be part of the executive.

In a swift reaction, John Atale, an aide of Mr. Adamu described Mr. Gombe as a paid agent and said his boss is being wrongly accused.

Mr. Atale said the failure of Nigeria’s candidate in the election should not be used as a means to earn a living.

He said Mr. Gombe’s claim is baseless as it is not the first time a person has lost out in the CAF election.

He accused Mr. Gombe of peddling blatant lies as paid to do by his boss, Mr. Maigari.

“We know Gara too well, he was one of the NFF contractors in South Africa during the Nation’s Cup, he is only looking for his food to eat but it is unfortunate that he is dragging Dr Adamu’s name into it; a man (Adamu) who has been out of the sports circle all these while. It is surprising that Gombe has been paid to lie,” Mr. Atale said.
