Amosun swears in new Justice Commissioner for Ogun

The Commissioner for Justice and the Solicitor-General are women making it a first for the state.

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday swore-in a new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, following a screening exercise and the House of Assembly’s approval on Thursday.

The new commissioner, Abimbola Akeredolu, replaced the former Commissioner, Wemimo Ogunde, who recently resigned his appointment.

At the swearing-in ceremony held at the governor’s office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Mr. Amosun tasked the new Attorney-General to see the appointment as a call to a service which is full of challenges.

The governor, who also swore-in the State’s Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Patricia Oduniyi, said his administration would continue to give women a pride of place in the scheme of things in the state.

He noted that with the coming on board of the duo, the administration of justice in the state was now in the hands of women.

“Today is International Women’s Day and there is nothing more befitting to honour women than what we are doing here today. Our Chief Judge is a woman, the Attorney-General is a woman and the Solicitor General too is a woman. There is no state in Nigeria that has achieved this” the governor remarked.

While congratulating the new appointees, Mr. Amosun said they could be called upon at any time of the day if the need arises, saying that as a government, “the only thing we can give back to the people in return is good governance which comes with a lot of sacrifice”.

Responding, the new commissioner, Mrs. Akeredolu appreciated Mr. Amosun for the opportunity given her to serve the state, promising to contribute positively to the administration’s drive to enhance delivery of justice to the people.

Born 49 years ago, Mrs. Akeredolu, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Bachelor and Masters Degree in Law. She is also Notary Public of Nigeria and a member, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She was into private legal practice until her new appointment.

The new Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary Mrs. Oduniyi, was until her appointment, the Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice.
