Maku attacks Fashola, says Lagos Governor has “something to hide” by rejecting “Good Governance Tour”

Indorama national good governance tour

The Good Governance Tour team said ACN governors have “something to hide.”

For the second time in one week, the Labaran Maku-led ‘Good Governance Tour’ team has hit out at a state governor who criticised the project.

On the occasion of his 2,100th day in office, Babatunde Fashola, the Lagos State Governor, had described the tour as “an attempt to appear busy” because the federal government “have no project to inspect.”

Mr. Fashola’s statement fell in line with his party man and Edo State counterpart, Adams Oshiomhole, who turned down the tour team’s request that the state provide feeding and accommodation “as agreed.”

In a statement, Friday, the team said it viewed the Lagos Governor’s utterance “with concern and deep regret” because the federal government has a huge stake in the governance of Lagos State.

“Governor Fashola should be appreciative of the Federal Government because far more than other states, the entire Lagos State like Abuja, runs on Federal Government infrastructure and services and Fashola knows that the Federal Government is doing a lot to keep Lagos State moving,” Samuel Ajayi, the Coordinator National, Good Governance Tour, said in the statement.

The Good Governance Tour, led by Mr. Maku, the Information Minister, began in September last year, with Abuja hosting the inaugural event.

With over 100 delegates comprising of state officials, journalist, civil groups, and nongovernmental organizations, the team intends to visit all states to highlight federal and state government projects.

However, the tour, which has seen Mr. Maku and his team visit 15 states across the North-central, South-East and the South-South Geo-political Zones, has continued to elicit criticisms from some Nigerians.

Something to hide

Last week, Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, labelled the tour “a big scam.”

“I am happy that Oshiomhole told the leader of the Good Governance Tour, Labaran Maku, to go to hell,” said Mr. Soyinka, throwing his weight behind the Edo State Governor.

Both Messrs. Oshiomhole and Fashola belong to the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria.

Mr. Ajayi referred to this in the statement, insinuating that the governors have skeletons hidden.

“It is obvious that Governors of a certain partisan persuasion are nervous about the impending tour of their states,” the statement continued.

“This clearly demonstrates that they have something to hide. If not, why are they afraid of the tour of projects in their states?”

The statement further reiterated that the tour is non-partisan and that all the 36 state governors were part of the planning.

“It must be shocking to all who are familiar with how the Tour was conceived, and is being implemented, that it has taken Governor Fashola nearly six months to dissociate the Lagos State Government from the Tour,” the statement read.

“For the records, Lagos State was duly represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, on the committee set up by the Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum, to ratify the template for the Tour.

“The final framework was approved by all state Governors without exception.”

Maku is barking mad!!! This government has an inferiority complex, must we all agree with its programmes? The evidence of good governance is there to see in Lagos, unlike the motionless federal government led by GEJ and punch of good-for-nothing ministers, that has kept Nigeria paralysed ever since they rigged themselves into power.

    • Preye

The program is not that of the federal govt but that of all the state govt’s tru the governors forum …. Am sure u didn’t read the story before commenting … Fashola and his ACN counterparts are hypocrites and are only playing politics with this … They initiated the program at the governors forum as a peer review activity, encouraged the FG to join and all of six months down the line, want to dissassociate themselves from it … What sort of stupid and wicked politics is that …. Politics to deceive the people abi …..

  • 100%Naija

Now let’s see. # of projects x 36 states – (Lagos + Edo) should still be enough to “show”. So why the bad belle? Only God knows who helps this clueless civil servants devise such senseless, non-value adding jamborees … they could as well complete few of the projects with the fat tour allowances, hotels and ……. Why should Fashola and Oshiomhole support them? It’s clear that the intent is sinister and self serving …. yeye people!

  • Ahmad Abdulrazak

I wonder why maku keep bein foolish day after day? Is fashola ur mate?

  • Naijaa

Basket mouth let it be clear to you that you don’t go on good governance for Nigerians to see good work, if Nigeria is working Nigerians will know so shove your jamboree tour aside abegggggggggggggg

  • preye aganabaaa

U shd put on your thinking cap next time. If the program isn’t that of fed govt, why did they involve maku who is a minister in the federal cabinet? In a federation, the states are independent and powerful , minister maku shd just go and sleep, if he wants to visit any state, let him go to pdp states! What project has fed govt done in 3yrs?? Has he visited such projects in all d states? Scammers

    • armrod

You are out of your mind is the federation only for PDP states? IS Maku only information minister for PDP states? Preye made it simple for you to understand and yet you came vomiting this trash. Maku is the information minister for the federation without this tour I would not have known that Enugu state have the best quality road in nigeria, I was amaze to see that Engr Ugwu in partnership with Ebonyi state built a rice processing plant. I saw wonderful projects embark by Amaechi, Akpabio etc. This is good for us to know not to sit behind keyboard to type silly comments that they are there and have not done anything. Some governors are doing great. Fashola was afraid because he don’t have anything to show that commensurate the media hype which he has woefully failed to sustain in his second term. There is noway you can compare Godswill with Fashola going by what I saw and yet he is not making noise. Fashola should be bold to show us his project, even Abia governor who the press told us is useless surrendered himself to the tour and guess what? it was discovered that the press were not kind to him. Drive round Lagos and see that Fashola is useless, what is he doing with the huge tax we are paying to him.It is a clear fact that it is federal goverment infrastructure that made Lagos what it is today. Fashola I have said it before should have used Lagos budget to uplift Nigerian economy, how many jobs has he created?

      • Babajide

amrod, President Jonathan should showcase his achievement in the health sector and why his wife Mrs. Jonathan had to travel abroad for health reasons inspite of the “huge achievement” of President Jonathan in the health sector. Okay? And finally wait a minute is it because of that “achievement”that our dear President had to LIE to we Nigerians about his wife’s health visit to Germany? The president’s today’s men and women should stop disturbing us. The game is up.

  • adenle

pls,Maku don’t come to Osun because there is no ongoing Federal government project to inspect

  • Ajantala

Maku, should inspect all the Federal Roads, put the Videos on the Internet and lets see what this government has done. If this PDP could do a bit of what Lagos, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo and Osun Governors of ACN are doing, Jonathan wouldn’t have any need to worry about re-election. The ONLY thing we read is Jonathan blaming past governments for non-performance. Maku, watch your back when you come to Southwest. These people are not very gentle.

  • segun

Baby Preye Aganaba, this is the era of modern technology and social media. Please let President Jonathan and the PDP governors video their achievements and put them on youtube. That should be enough and more cost effective. Also , that way we will SEE WITH OUR EYES all the achievements. Maku should stop all these rubbish. I do not need any minister to tell me whether I have power to light my house or not. I do not need any minister to tell me whether water runs in my house or not. Maku should please go and visit Nigerian hospitals and TELL NIGERIANS WHY MRS JONATHAN HAD TO GO ABROAD FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT. President jonathan should please show case his ahievement in the health secor and inform us why his wife had to travel abroad for medical treatment AFTER HIS(PRESIDENT’S JONATHAN’S) ACHIEVEMENT IN THE HEALTH SECTOR!!! I am not interested Maku’s visit. It is about estacodes.

  • They should have tagged it BAD GOVERANCE TOUR!

    • Abuhanifah

You can say that again. An empty drum makes the loudest noise. The tour is a necessity because nature abhors vacuum; with virtually no productive venture in the offing, it is necessary to deceive themselves that they are working.
Allow them, a time will come when they and their cronies will have no place to hide their head in our country. Whatever goes up must surely come down.

Armrod are u truly residing in Lagos or u just been biased. Ask urself sincerely can you compare Federal govt achieved developmental projects with Lagos govt ? I assume ur aswer is NO! Then if our Fed govt can’t showcase his shameful achievements, why derisive about d little physical/successive projects Fasola has done in Lagos. Pls fear God now! Ask this your friend to find something better to do instead of this non-resourceful wakawaka his proclaiming all about!
