The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed sorrow over the death of the Assistant Political Editor of the Guardian Newspapers, John-Abba Ogbodo, who died in an auto crash on Thursday.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Friday said the party was thrown into mourning when the news of Mr. Ogbodo’s death got to its National Secretariat.

The statement described the late editor, who covered the activities of the PDP for many years, as an exceptional and very hard working journalist who contributed immensely to the development of the country through his reportage of political events.

The PDP said Mr. Ogbodo remained dedicated to his calling as a journalist and carried out his duties with a great sense of responsibility that reflected in the credibility of his reports.

“Ogbodo was an exceptional journalist who remained dedicated to his calling as a journalist. He covered the activities of the PDP for many years and during this period, he carried out his duty with great sense of responsibility which reflected in the credibility of his reports.

“The PDP family deeply mourn Ogbodo and his memory will continue to remain fresh in our hearts especially for his immense contributions towards the political development of the country”, the statement said.

The party condoled Mr. Ogbodo’s family, especially his wife and children; the Guardian Newspapers; and all members of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, for the death of “this great Nigerian who lost his life in the line of duty.”

The journalist died on Thursday in an auto crash along Lokoja-Okene highway.

He was on his way to Awka, Anambra State, with some of his colleagues for an official assignment.
