42 people died in 78 road accidents in Nigeria last week-FRSC

At least 200 people sustained various degrees of injuries from the crashes.

At least 42 people were killed in road accidents across Nigeria last week, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, said in its various platforms.

The deaths occurred in 78 crashes that were recorded by the Corps between February 18 and 24. The crashes also caused injuries to about 200 people.

The Corps said ten people lost their lives in different crashes on February 18 while 38 people sustained various degrees of injuries.

Some of the roads where the accidents occurred on February 18 include Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressway; Oyo- Ogbomosho route; Egbu – Awka junction along Ow- Umu route; Lagos – Ibadan Expressway; Irrua junction, Ekpoma; Zaria- Kano route; Koton-Karfe/Abuja route; Issele-Azagba Junction; Aku village, Kano; and Zaria-Kano road.

At least three people were killed the next day on February 19 in various accidents while 23 were injured.

The Tuesday accident occurred along Lagos- Ibadan Expressway; Okigwe – Umuahia route; Television garage, Kaduna; Hadejia – Balangu rout; Ugba junction, along Aba- Owerri route; Yola – Numan route; and Keffi – Masaka route.

The Corps recorded 11 deaths and 20 injuries on February 20 across Nigeria.

One of the accidents of February 20 was a robbery induced crash at kilometer 9, Abuja – Kaduna road at about 2:00 a.m. during which10 men were killed while 4 other people were injured. Armed robbers had earlier barricaded the road before a Mack trailer with registration number KMC 607 XA conveying about 14 passengers ran into the obstruction.

On Thursday, February 21, one person was reported dead in 11 crashes in different states; while 34 people were injured.

On Friday, six people died and 57 others injured in 15 crashes across the country.

Saturday, February 23 recorded the lowest number of crashes with five accidents recorded by the Corps. Two people lost their lives while 13 people were injured from the crashes.

On Sunday, nine people lost their lives while 15 people sustained different injuries in 10 crashes that occurred across the country.

All the injured victims were taken to various hospitals nearest to the crash site while the corpses were deposited in the nearest morgues.
