Kaduna to honour Super Eagles- Governor Yero

The Kaduna State Government has said it will honour the Super Eagles for making Nigeria proud by winning the African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Governor Ramalan Yero made the announcement shortly after the final whistle on Sunday. The governor who watched the match alongside many residents of the state at the Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, Kaduna Secretariat viewing center said: “I am very happy because that is what we deserve and I will like to congratulate all Nigerians for winning this trophy because it is long overdue for us to win it”.

Speaker further, Mr. Yero said his government will follow in the footsteps of the Federal Government by honouring the team.

“The Kaduna State Government is going to do its own to appreciate the team. I believe the Federal Government will do something for them, then we too at the state level will do something for them,” he said.

He commended the Super Eagles for what he described as their patriotism, adding that they have in their own way helped to unite Nigerians.

“We are happy to see how the Super Eagles exhibited a lot of patriotism,” he said.

Mr. Yero said his government will seize the momentum to use sports as a tool for the promotion of peace and unity.

“Part of the plan we have in the state is to use sports as a tool of unity and peaceful coexistence in the State, and with one of the players from Kaduna United, I believe we are going to show more efforts in trying to revive both Kaduna United and Ranchers Bees football clubs” he added.

The Super Eagles on Sunday won the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 18 years after they defeated Burkina Faso 1-0.
