Gunmen on Tuesday evening killed two policemen at Kwana Hudu in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, barely nine hours after they murdered two and injured another, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
A witness said in Kano that the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on January 15.
The witness said the gunmen attacked a police check-point in the area and killed their victims.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, Magaji Majiya, said that security agencies were trailing the gunmen in the affected areas with a view to apprehending them.
“What happened at Kwana Hudu in Nasarawa Local Government Area was not an attack, but it was a search carried out by our men, which is yielding positive result,” said the spokesman.
The police had earlier confirmed the killing of two policemen on Tuesday morning while another was injured at Yan’awaki Unguwa Uku located at the outskirts of Kano metropolis, following an early morning attack on a police vehicle by gunmen.
Earlier on Monday, two cops were killed by gunmen, also in Kano. This makes at least six police officers killed by gunmen in the Northern Nigeria city in the last three days.
Kano has witnessed an increase in attacks on government officials. Some of the victims include state lawmakers and police officers.
