Mr. Agbaso, who witnessed the evacuation of garbage at the new market in Owerri, described the New Market Motor Park as disgusting.
He urged traders to keep the market and its environs clean to avoid the contamination of food items.
Mr. Agbaso said creating a refuse dump in the market could pose a serious health risk as food items sold around the dump would be contaminated.
He admonished the traders’ association to ensure that the market was not used as a refuse bin.
The Imo Deputy Governor warned that any establishment that sabotaged efforts to keep the environment clean would be dealt with.
He also urged residents to continue to support government’s efforts to provide that people with basic amenities.
