A Federal High Court in Asaba has sentenced two women, Helen Itemba and Aladi Johnny Money, to three years in jail for conspiracy and illegally dealing in petroleum products.
The judge, Ibrahim Buba, gave the women the option of serving the jail term or pay N300,000 fine.
The women, who were prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), were arrested by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in May 2009 for illegally conveying 136 plastic drums of petroleum products in a truck with registration number XN 789 EGU at Egbidi, Isoko Local Government of Delta State without a license and were subsequently handed over to the commission for prosecution.
According to the EFCC, the convicts contravened Section 3(6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap. M17, laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2007 and punishable under section 1(17) of the same act.
