Three petroleum product tankers crashed in the Idiroko area of Ogun State on Wednesday night causing the death of three people, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said.

Three people were burnt to death while one other person was injured in the resulting fire at Aseko, Agosasa, Idikoro on Wednesday night.

Idiroko is a border community between Ogun State and Benin Republic. It is notorious as a smuggling route between Nigeria and Benin.

The fire started when a Mack tanker with registration number AAA 36 XA and two other Leyland tankers crashed and caught fire at about midnight, the FRSC said on its facebook page.

Ten sales shops and a building were also ravaged by the fire.

The injured victim and the dead persons have been taken to General Hospital, Idiroko.
