Gunmen broke into an Adamawa prison and killed two persons.
The gunmen that attacked Maiha prison killed two people, a policeman and a guest, the Chairman of Maiha Local Government of Adamawa, Mohammed Jibrilla, said on Friday.
Mr. Jibrilla added that the gunmen came on foot and motorcycles and freed all 35 inmates in the jail.
“At the prisons, all the 35 inmates were released, but 11 of them are so far back or re-arrested,” he said.
Mr. Jibrilla said on telephone that the gunmen divided themselves in groups before attacking their targets.
He listed the police station, prison, Presidential Lodge, Area Court, District Head’s office, Local Education Authority and the Nigeria Customs Service offices as some of the affected public places.
Mr. Jibrilla said the gunmen, who used explosives, engaged in a shoot out with the policemen.
The Adamawa Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Ibrahim, also confirmed the attack and the killing of one policeman and a civilian.
“We lost one of our men and a civilian,” Mr. Ibrahim said.
The attack was made in the early hours of Friday. Several vehicles and motorcycles parked at the affected areas, including those of customs and policemen, were burnt.
