The Reps insist President Jonathan must sack Ms. Oteh from SEC
The House of Representatives on Thursday ordered the withholding of funding for the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, as it passed the 2013 budget alongside the Senate, insisting the SEC boss, Arunma Oteh ,be removed.
A clause to that effect has been inserted into the budget just passed. But the Constitution gives SEC fiscal autonomy like the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission meaning they don’t need approval from the National Assembly to have a budget.
The lawmakers warned that they will press for the implementation of an earlier decision of the House which recommended Ms. Oteh’s sack.
The SEC boss has had a long-running feud with the House after she accused members of soliciting bribes from the commission, an allegation that led to the prosecution of the two members, Herman Hembe and Emeka Azubogu.
The two men were also removed from their positions as Chairman and Deputy of the House Committee on Capital Market.
