Another attack has been witnessed in Yobe and Borno states.
At least four people, a police officer and three gunmen, were killed on Monday in Potiskum, Yobe, during an attack on Emir of Fika’s palace, the Joint Task Force, JTF, in Yobe has said.
The police officer, Mohammed Ali, a Divisional Police Officer, was caught in a cross fire between his men and the attacking gunmen.
Residents told PREMIUM TIMES the attackers were apparently on a mission to torch the palace after they burnt down a branch of Unity Bank in the town, earlier.
The DPO was felled when he arrived at the palace battle ground to supply more ammunition to his men.
Spokesperson of the JTF in the state, Lazarus Eli, confirmed the incident, adding that men of the JTF successfully repelled the attack and killed 14 of the attackers.
“Our men repelled the attempt to burn the palace of the emir and police station and killed fourteen of the terrorists as well, however, the terrorists picked about ten remains of their colleagues,” he said.
In neighbouring Maiduguri as well, gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect killed a prominent citizen in Gwange simply known as Alhaji Kachalla.
Eye witnesses said the man was trailed and killed in his residence Monday evening.
He is reported to be a wealthy philanthropist in Gwange.
In addition, a telecoms mast was destroyed by suspected members of the sect in Maiduguri.
