JTF declares Boko Haram leaders wanted, places over N240 million bounty on insurgents

The Nigerian military has declared 19 senior members of the terrorist Boko Haram group blamed for thousands of deaths in northern Nigeria wanted.

The army also placed a N50 million bounty on the suspected leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau and N10 million for various commanders of the sect.

A statement by the spokesman of the Joint Task Force, JTF, listed 19 alleged commanders of the sect.

“They are wanted in connection with terrorist activities particularly in the northeast zone of Nigeria that led to the killings, bombings and assassination of some civilians, religious leaders, traditional rulers, businessmen, politicians, civil servants and security personnel amongst others,” the statement said.

“They are also wanted for arson and destruction of properties worth millions of naira.”

Transformed sect

Boko Haram set out seeking to impose a stricter form of Sharia or Islamic law in northern Nigeria and end corruption.

Violence by the group, which had only religious interest in the past, is traceable to the five days of clashes in July 2009 between the group and members of the security forces in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Kano states that left several people dead, including police officers, soldiers and civilians.

The police summarily executed the captured Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Yusuf, along with several dozens of his followers in front of the police headquarters in Maiduguri.

Dozens of its members were also arrested.

Boko Haram frequently said its attacks on the government, especially the police, are in revenge for these killings and an attempt to set free members incarcerated by the police.

Political collaboration

Recently, the ideology behind Boko Haram attacks got more confusing with increasing attacks on schools, media houses and almost any soft target within its reach.

Former National Security Adviser, Andrew Owoye Azazi, recently said the group was a creation of the disgruntled members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

He said members of the party, angered by the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan, created the group to destabilize the government.

He also admitted the sect had members trained by more sophisticated international counterparts.

Na who wan pay dis money na jtf ?, dem get dis kind money na im their barracks dey beg 4 repair. Hahahaaaa

  • NAGODI

WHERE WERE YOU ALL THIS WHILE. PROBLEM ONE: NO NIGERIAN ALIVE TODAY WILL BELIEVE JTF OR THE NIGERIAN GOVT WILL GIVE HIM THE BOUNTY AFTER EXPOSING THE GROUP. PROBLEM TWO: THOSE WHO SHOULD BE SYMPATHETIC TO THE GOVT HAVE LOST LOVED ONES TO JTF AND ARE NOW MORE SYMPATHETIC TO BOKO HARAM.

A GOOD LESSON TO LEARN IS THAT KILL OR CAPTURE DOES NOT SOLVE THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM THAT BROUGHT US TO WHERE WE ARE TODAY. AS LONG AS AS GOVT WILL NOT DISCHARGE ITS RESPONSIBILITIES OF JUST LEADERSHIP WE WILL CONTINUE ALONG THE SAME PATH.

    • Easy

In the past, you have alluded to the fact that you have been a Boko Haram victim. But before and since admitting this, you have been nothing more than a Boho Haram mouth piece. Is this a classic case of Stokholm syndrom? Or were you lying?

  • Oladimeji Olaposi

A round of applause for the JTF nonsensical declaration…I think if the bounty is placed on the corrupt cum corrupted leaders, past and present, there would be a mass response to the call. Or better still, let the N240 million be spent to stabilize just a single local government’s electricity, water, and roads…or don’t they want to give the money away?

  • Eziokwu bu Ndu

    Interesting Rubbish!

  • Eziokwu bu Ndu

Clear evidence of confusion; sign of surrender by JTF.

Even in the US, bounty hunters are widely used. No my friend, it is good sense.

….But for the cowardice of the West, these largely useless and poor peoples from the Northern countries of continent Nigeria would not have had effrontery to insult & kill people at will.

For over 37 yrs, the Hausa fulani led & mismanaged Nigeria from the West – Lagos. Yet, not even one Yoruba man was able to plan a coup. They were comfortable prostrating everyday to the Hausa boys, as Tinubu still does routinely on trips to Kaduna to see Terrorist Buhari. However, some of the Yoruba’s have argued that prostrating is enshrined in their culture. But looking at
the origin of the Emir in Illorin & the Benin Kingdom Prince Ekelederhan (Oduduwawa) in Ife, I cannot but agree that indeed prostrating is innately enshrined in the marrows of these rare cowardly homo sapiens.

Their support for & refusal to challenge the Hausa Fulani at several times including the Killing of MKO, perpetual rule from Yoruba land from 60s-90s, has emboldened these alimajiri Talakawa
republic idiots who have no value for life.

If not for the Bendel boys of largely SS extraction who smoked IBB from Dodan Barracks via
Obalende cementry, IBB would have remained untouched by the cowards from whose land the Hausa oligarchy held sway. Could that domination have happened if the capital of continent Nigeria was in Enugi, Warri,Benin or PH? The answer is obvious. IMPOSSIBLE.

Well, with the President from the Ijaw Nation of the SS & his army commander an Ibo
from the core Ibo Nation, two individuals from Nations where cowardice is alien unlike the West, the Talakawa & arewa politicians grossly miscalculated when they thought Boko Haram would cause Jona to cringe.

Whether BH detonates their cheap bombs on per second basis, Jonathan gives no damn.
    Damn it!!!

Nigeria is not a country but a continent, break up NOW!

    Long live Ken Saro Wiwa
    Long live Isaac adaka Boro
    Long live Dim Ojukwu
Long live the April 22, 1990 Martyrs
Long live the United States of the SS & SE

    • u don drink your kainkain….no wonder u dey misjive

      • Easy

I be you wish you could do the same. I hae seen a few brohers from the North hiding from others, just to have a quiet drink. The hypocracy is amuzing.

  • Easy

If you can trace the violence of Boko Haram to the clash with the Security servoces in 2009, then please tell us, how could a law abiding and non-violent sect clash with the Security services? Just because something has been repeated several times by sympathisers of the sect, common sense still has to prevail.A poor effort.

    • NAGODI

THE SECT WAS LAW-ABIDING UP TO 2009 WHEN DISREGARD FOR THE LAW BY THE POLICE FORCED THEM TO TAKE UP ARMS AGAINST THE STATE. FOR YOUR INFORMATION EVEN AFTER THE 2009 MASSACRE, BOKO HARAM WENT TO COURT AND GOT AN ORDER THAT SAID THEY MUST GET 100 MILLION NAIRA COMPENSATION AND THOSE OFFICERS INVOLVED IN THE 2009 KILLINGS BE ARRESTED AND PROSECUTED. THE GOVT IGNORED THE RULING UNTIL THE ABUJA POLICE HQ BOMBING. THEN SUDDENLY THE JONATHAN GOVT AND BORNO STATE GOVT PAID THE MONEY (BORNO STATE, 40 MILLION, FEDERAL GOVT, 60 MILLION), ARRESTED THE OFFICERS AND CHARGE THEM TO COURT! YOU SEE WETHER YOU ARE NIGER DELTA MILITANT OR BOKO HARAM IF YOU HAVE ANY GRIEVANCIES DONT GO TO THE POLICE OR THE COURTS, TAKE UP ARMS AND THAT IS THE ONLY TIME THE GOVT WILL LISTEN TO YOU!

      • Easy

So, the famous Nigerian Police’s disregard for the law drove them into violence with
deadly weapons? Just to satisfy my curiosity, how did this then translate into
the killing of Christians in their places of worship? If the state and Federal
Governments paid the fines, then these people must be known to the authorities.
In view of their continued violence against innocent Christians, why have they
not been apprehended? Further, the fact that they are now using our money to
        buy arms pains me greatly.

      • Dan

There does seem to be something phony in this argument. For an entirely peaceful
organisation, with no interest in disrupting the peace in any way to attract the Police ‘majorly’ is highly irregular in my experience. Are you sure you are giving us all the facts? Was there really smoke without a fire?

In states that have chosen a state religion, the National Assembly should redress the issue by repealing the Law or set up a concurrent Moses Law to protect the minority.
Then enforcing this will make the individual decide under which laws he/she would want to be tried.
