The minister said there would be massive employment before year end.

The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Administration has said it will employ 10 thousand women and youth under its Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment (SURE-P) Programme before the end of the year.

The Minister of State for Abuja disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja when she received members of the National Council for Women Societies, Abuja chapter, in her office.

She said that the employment would help to ameliorate the well-being of women and youth in the Nigerian capital.

“There will be massive employment before the end of this year and we have started registration of unemployed women and youth in the FCT.

“They will be employed into different fields and also vocational acquisition programmes. So, interested women and youths can register with our social development secretariat,’’ she said.

She urged Abuja women to embark on projects that were self sustaining, adding that the 2013 budget of the capital would give priority to projects embarked upon by Abuja women and youth.

Nancy Bulus, President of the council, congratulated the minister for serving her fatherland with all passion and for projecting the image of the FCT.

Ms. Bulus also thanked the minister for prompt financial support given to the council to retrieve the Certificate of Occupancy for its land from Safe Riders Nigeria Ltd.

According to her, the council is faced with a lot of challenges in terms of lack of office accommodation and means of transportation to carry out its day-to-day activities and National programmes.

She said that some of the challenges include lack of women cooperative societies, women and widows’ empowerment programmes among others.

Ms. Bulus said that the council would build a Daycare Nursery and Primary School, shopping malls, and offices for rent this year.
