Bayelsa oil mogul was abducted on Monday.
The Police Command in Bayelsa State on Monday confirmed the kidnap of a 60-year-old community leader, Bertrand Douglas, of Ekpekiri community.
Mr. Douglas, a renowned geologist, was kidnapped on Sunday by armed gunmen in his country home in Ekpekiri.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Fidelis Odunna, said in Yenagoa that Mr. Douglas was abducted and taken to an unknown destination.
He said the command had dispatched a crack team to track down the kidnappers.
Mr. Douglas is the Managing Director of the Sart Nigeria Limited, an oil field laboratory firm, which specialises in pause behaviour and reservoirs management studies in the Niger Delta region.
Mr. Douglas, who is based in Port Harcourt, came home for the burial of one of his elder brothers.
A source said the kidnappers came into the community through the waters and headed straight to the home of the business mogul.
The source further said that the gunmen, who abducted him, had engaged his security in gun-battle but could not confirm if there was any casualty.
