The lawmakers are expected to meet with the governor on Sunday.
The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt, has called for a meeting with the state lawmakers to resolve the crisis brewing among members which has prevented the House from resuming for an urgent plenary session called by the Speaker.
A majority of the lawmakers, 19 of the total 26 members, shunned the emergency plenary called by the speaker last Tuesday, which was meant to screen commissioner nominees sent by the governor.
The lawmakers alleged that the speaker and the state governor have not taken issues of their welfare serious enough.
Efforts by the speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, to rally his colleagues have thus far failed as the majority insisted they would only resume at the end of their ongoing break on November 13.
PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively reported how the speaker, in a frantic bid to prevent possible impeachment, embarked on house-to- house campaign to members.
Realising that his colleagues were adamant, Mr. Adekunbi is said to have approached the governor to intervene. Mr. Amosun has now called a meeting with all the 26 lawmakers for Sunday, November 11, and requested the speaker to send out invitation to all members.
The meeting is scheduled to hold by 7:00 p.m. at the Government House as contained in short a SMS sent by the troubled speaker to his colleagues.
“Distinguished Honourable members, kindly attend a meeting with the governor at government house by 7 p.m. tomorrow Sunday 11/11/12,” the invitation reads. “Your attendance and punctuality at this meeting is very necessary and important to chart a way forward on the progress of the state. Thanks. Speaker Rt.Hon Prince S.I Adekunbi.”
