The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate in the just concluded Governorship poll in Ondo State, Olusola Oke has also filed a petition at the Governorship Election petition tribunal in Akure asking it to nullify the reelection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
This has brought to four the number of political parties that have filed petitions against the victory of the incumbent governor.
The political parties that have already filed their petitions to challenge the October 20 Governorship election results in Ondo State are the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Accord Party (AP) and the Peoples Democratic Change.
The PDP had made its intention to challenge Mr. Mimiko’s victory known few days after the election.
Accompanied to the tribunal’s office by supporters and members of his legal team, Mr. Oke is challenging election results from seventeen local government areas of the state
He is also seeking the nullification of the election result on the basis that it was marred by irregularities.
The petitioners also urged the tribunal to declare its candidate the winner of the election or order a fresh election since the incumbent governor was not duly elected.
A member of Mr. Oke’s legal team, Yinka Osokoto, who spoke with reporters, said the Labour Party’s candidate during the election did not score the majority votes.
Mr. Orokoto disclosed that arrangement had been concluded to invite three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) to join him in handling the case.
He said, “As a matter of fact, we have looked at the evidences at our disposal, and we are convinced in our minds that the October 20 election was massively rigged.
“We are asking the court to declare my client and his party winner of the election. In the alternative, we are praying the court to nullify the election because of the putative electoral malpractices that marred the election “.
Mr. Oke, while addressing reporters, said he was not under any pressure to drop the petition
“I am not under any pressure to drop the petition from the national headquarters. It is just a mere rumour,” he said. “We have enough evidence to prove to the world that the election was rigged by Labour Party in connivance with INEC.”
The PDP and its candidate have listed 143 witnesses to prove their case before the tribunal
