Nov.5 (PREMIUM TIMES) The police claim they intercepted a Golf car meant to bomb Kuje Prisons.

Police in Abuja say they may have foiled a major prison break after they intercepted a bomb-laden car headed for the city’s jail facility.

The police officials said the black Volkswagen Golf car wired with explosives was apparently intended for a suicide bombing jailbreak on Kuje Prisons at the outskirts of Abuja.

It is unclear how the police intercepted the suspicious car but officials claim they have both the car and its occupant in their custody at the Kuje central police station.

Police spokesman, Frank Mba, could not be reached for official statements has he did not pick or return calls to his phone.

The Kuje facility, a medium security prison, is not known to be harbouring any high profile inmate suspected of alliance with the Boko Haram insurgent group, who have in the past carried out similar attacks on facilities, in Northern States, that hold their members.

The foiled attack re-emphasises the vulnerability of Abuja city to terror attacks from both known and unknown groups.
