Nov.5 (PREMIUM TIMES) – Angry suppliers to NICON Luxury Hotels, owned by Nigeria’s troubled business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim, stormed the hotel premises on Monday in protest against unpaid debts.
The protesters came under the Association of NICON Luxury Hotel Suppliers, saying they supplied sundry goods that kept the hotel running while debts piled. Some of the suppliers claimed the hotel owed supply bills dating back to 2004.
The hotel management used armed mobile police officers to curtail the protesters and refused to speak about the debts.
Jimoh Ibrahim’s businesses have recently been haunted by debts. In September, the domestic wing of his airline, Air Nigeria, was grounded by the government on bankruptcy allegations.
Before shutting his airline, the embattled businessman was questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over possible money laundering charges.
