At the NASS prayer session, recipes for national development was proffered.

Nigeria leadership must rely on quality management principles and systems set by God to transform the country’s national development and growth, the Director General, Institute for National Transformation, Vincent Anigbogu, has said.

Mr. Anigbogu said that one of the best ways to ensure growth and national development is to create an enabling environment that would allow every Nigerian to be his best. He said only a righteous, courageous and focused leadership is capable of ensuring the country’s national development and growth.

“Our leaders must embrace successor planning, because the best investment towards the country’s development is in securing the future by putting in place quality leaders to succeed them.

“Leadership must cultivate the culture of regular monitoring and evaluation of its development strides through a tracking system that is above procedures,” he said.

Mr. Anigbogu, who delivered the keynote message at the Third National Prayer Breakfast meeting organised by the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, expressed dismay that the flame of the country’s unity that began to glow at independence has been flickering in the last 52 years and about to quench.

He made reference to the Singaporean Story in Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew entitled ‘From Third World to First’.  Mr. Anigbogu said the Singapore was able to transform and build  a multilingual, multi-cultural, multi-religious and dynamic society by creating an environment that enabled it harness its potentials to compete with the world and excel.

Expressing the conviction that Nigeria can change, he said our leaders must be ready to embrace righteousness and fight corruption, adding that it takes courage and sacrifice on the part of the leadership to build a righteous nation.

“Any nation that wants to build a viable society must develop a strong infrastructure that would make it grow, provide quality education to the citizenry and put in place a government that would facilitate, rather than impede national development,” he said.

The annual prayer meeting, which is organised to provide the forum for Christians to pray for the country’s continued growth and development, featured special prayers for the country’s leadership and for God’s intervention in the affairs of the country.

Attended by prominent Nigerians, including the former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, the leadership of the National Assembly as well as top government officials, the theme of this year’s meeting was “Sacrifice with Righteousness.”
