Ngozi Braide : Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer,

The suspects are being held at the Ketu police station

The police in Lagos have arrested a car painter and a yam seller for allegedly stealing a space wagon car from a vehicle dealer.

The two men are reportedly being detained at the Ketu Police Station.

A police source said the suspects allegedly went to a car dealer in Agege, Lagos, pretending to be interested in buying a vehicle. He explained that the vehicle dealer and one of the suspects agreed on a price and that the suspect collected the bank account of the dealer with the pretence of paying the agreed amount.

“Some minutes later, the suspects returned to the dealer that the money had been paid into his bank account. While the suspects were still with the dealer, he got a payment alert of the said amount from his bank.

The source said that based on the alert, the dealer released the vehicle to the suspects and they took it to Ketu area, where they immediately changed its colour.

“The dealer was shocked, when he got to the bank and there was no such money in his account. The case was reported to the police,” he said.

An informant later told the police that a suspected stolen vehicle was seen somewhere in Ketu, following which the police sent a team for investigation.

“One of the police officers, on seeing the vehicle, said it had a resemblance to the stolen space wagon. He pretended as if he wanted to buy it. It was when the vehicle was driven to the police station with one of the suspects that he confessed to the crime,” the source said.

The command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the case, said that the police was investigating the bank, to unravel the official collaborator in the crime.

Ms. Braide said that the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
