The police said more raids will be conducted in Ajegunle
Less than a week after it paraded 130 crime suspects arrested in Ajegunle area of Lagos, the Lagos State Police Command has said that it has arrested another 91 suspects.
The fresh suspects are alleged to be members of the notorious armed robbery gang nicknamed ‘One Million and One Boys,’ in Ajegunle.
In an interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Monday, the Lagos police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said that intelligence reports led them to the latest arrests on Sunday.
Last week, the police paraded 130 suspects who were alleged to be members of the group that had been terrorizing the community, in Ajeromi-Ifelodun local council area of Lagos. The police said 29 of them were confirmed armed robbers, arrested with arms and ammunition.
“Most of them were arrested in a brothel,” Ms. Braide said.
“Some have been charged to court, the confirmed armed robbers. Some have been handed over to the task force at Alausa.
“The (Ajegunle) residents have been so happy with the activities of the police,” Ms. Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, added.
Ms. Braide also stated that the crime rate in Ajegunle has been brought down to the “barest minimum” and arrests would become continuous. She said the new suspects will be charged according to what investigations reveal.
The police spokesperson also hinted at the possibility of arresting innocent citizens in the ongoing massive raids by the police.
“After screening, the ones that are innocent will be allowed to go, that’s the normal process. When you get there, and you prove that you are innocent, you’ll be allowed to go,” she said.
