The field commander of the Boko Haram in Yobe has been reportedly killed
Security operatives have reported a huge success against members of the dreaded Boko Haram in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, as about 30 members of the sect, and its Yobe commander, were killed in a gun duel, Sunday.
According to a statement by the Joint Task Force, JTF, in Yobe, security operatives “on cordon and search operation in suspected Boko Haram hideout at Kandahar and the cemetery areas of Damaturu engaged in a gun battle with the suspected terrorists.”
In the statement signed by the Yobe JTF spokesman, Eli Lazarus, the force said it killed 30 members of the insurgent group in the raid.
“In the battle, the notorious, one-eyed Bakaka, the field commander of Boko Haram in Damaturu and a close associate of Abubakar Shekau was killed,” the JTF said. “Ten (10) others arrested during the battle are presently assisting investigators to track other senior members of the terrorist group.”
The force said it also recovered several arms and ammunition from the insurgents including six rifles, ninety rounds of ammunition, several handsets and sim packs. Other items recovered include knives, bows and arrows, diggers, knives, two ‘keke napep tricycles,’ and three cans of IEDs which were detonated.
The Yobe JTF, which also announced a change in its leadership with Colonel I.S. Ali replacing Colonel Dahiru Abdulsalam as boss, thanked residents of the states for providing useful information leading to its successful operations.
