The flood in Lokoja has slowed down entry of goods into the state ad has caused an increase in prices of food items.
In Lokongoma market in Lokoja on Wednesday, prices of some commodities, especially food items, have soared.
The price of rice has increased from N9, 000 to N9, 500 per bag, beans from N300 to N600 per bushel and semolina from N1600 to N1900 per bag.
Also, price of a tin of vegetable oil has risen from N3, 900 to N4, 900, while a carton of Indomie noodles has jumped from N1, 800 to N2, 100.
A trader in the market, Hadijat Lawal, said that supply of food items to the market has been affected by the floods.
She said she did not know how she could get food stuffs after the sale of her current stock as there were no means of transportation.
Ms. Lawal said that the price of a bag of sachet water that which used to be N120 has gone up to N150, while a sachet is now N20 instead of N5.
