Suspect arrested over kidnap of in-law to Bauchi Governor

bySani Tukur

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the kidnap of Mohammed Sade, an in-law  to the Governor of Bauchi, Isa Yuguda; the Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan, has said.

Mr. Sade was the arrowhead of Governor Yuguda’s political apparatus.

Mr. Ladan said the suspect has given the police useful information that could lead to the arrest of the kidnappers.

The Kidnap

The victim’s family member, Hafizu Dahiru, provided further insight into the incident.

He said Mr. Sade was abducted on his way to the Mosque for early Morning Prayer, around 5.a.m.

The victim’s daughter called Mr. Dahiru’s wife and told her that gunmen had kidnapped Mr. Sade at his residence in Railway Quarters, Bauchi.

“The assailants shot and killed his security man before taking him away. As I speak with you, his where about and safety is still not known to us, and we pray to Allah to bail him from his kidnappers,” Mr. Dahiru said.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to which Mr. Sade and Mr. Yuguda belong, has condemned the kidnap. The Assistant State Publicity Secretary of the party, Bashir Zayan, stated this in a statement.

“We received the news of his abduction with great shock and we pray to God to be his keeper wherever he is. We advised our leaders to be fair and just to all,” Mr. Zayan said.

He urged security agencies to improve their surveillance efforts in order to protect the lives and property of innocent citizens and called for regular prayers to overcome the security challenges facing the country.

The abductors are yet to demand a ransom from the family of the victim, as at the time of this report.
