T.B. Joshua, perhaps Nigeria’s most unconventional cleric, posted a heart-warming story on his official Facebook Page about an elderly lady who came to his church with an unusual gift.

A retired teacher named Caroline Orugude had come to The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria to share a curious testimony.

After retiring from her job in June, 2012, Caroline was forced to wait almost two years for the gratuity that she was supposed to receive. “There was nothing much we could do except pray because the pension system is so unreliable,” she narrated to the congregation.

After visiting various churches for prayer without any visible change, she was introduced to Emmanuel TV, the popular Christian television station broadcasting the activities at The SCOAN, and began praying along with T.B. Joshua.

Within two weeks, she received a call from the treasury, asking her to go to Abuja to collect her pension money. “I decided that when I got the money, I would come to The SCOAN to appreciate the Lord,” she joyfully said. “I am here with the small sum of 500,000 naira, to give to the man of God and The SCOAN, as my tithe.”

It was an unexpected declaration but the response of Joshua was equally surprising as he insisted he could not collect the gift.

“Yes, it is written in the Bible that we should pay tithe but how can we collect tithe from widows and the aged who are supposed to be under our care,” he questioned the congregation.

“Remember, she has stopped working. She needs our care for the rest of her life. These are the women we should be feeding and taking care of. She is our mother; she is my mother too.”

The cleric, who is well known for his philanthropic gestures, then announced that instead of taking Mrs. Orugude’s tithe, he would support her with an additional 500,000 naira.

“When God calls a man or woman, what they will eat, what they will use and everything they need for their journey will be provided abundantly by God,” T.B. Joshua then explained, noting the attributes of genuine ministers of God.

“When a minister begins to depend on tithes, you know he is not a minister of God,” he added. “This is a message to ministers of God all over the world. When we collect tithes, we should know those whom we collect them from. Don’t force anybody – it is between them and God. Let us worship the Giver of money, not money,” he concluded.

The post on Joshua’s Facebook page, followed by 1.5 million people, ended with a poignant question. “Where are your elderly? Care for them and you shall reach old age.”

A video recently surfaced of Joshua refusing a $1,000 offering from a Swiss lady who received healing during his crusade in Colombia. Several weeks ago, he spoke scathingly of ‘money-hungry’ pastors, insisting that ministers of God should not force members to give offerings or tithes as it was a thing of the heart.

And who said this man is not a minister of God. Do you know how many minister today that will ask you to go and bring money before praying for you, some of them will curse you for not paying your tithes and some are charging members as if it a do or die affairs,i think pastor should learn, even if this man doesn’t have a real call as people say,God will justify him by his good works. How many man of God can do this? A tithe of 500k returned and the woman went home with additional 500k. This act alone is an act of God.

    • Omo Akin

The better way should be to allow the woman fulfill her vow to God and then the Pastor can bless him with the same amount or more from his own resources; he can afford it. He should have let her drop the tithe into the church and then give her a Million Naira. I say this because it is reported as a tithe and not a personal gift to Pastor. A Christian pays tithe to the church for blessing on what is left: open the windows of heaven and rebuke the devourer. Although we are no longer under the curse of the law due to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we still receive the blessings for following principles in the scriptures like tithing.

      • tittop dede

God punish religion. U don’t know bible but u are just a religious guy that is being thought that u will die once u don’t pay ur tithe, who is to eat tithe? Do u pay tithe under the law or under the grace,Abraham dt started tithe in d bible paid it under d grace,God had already blessed Abraham before he paid tithe bt ur hungry pastors will tell us to pay tithe so dt God can bless u,no it’s wrong,u don’t pay tithe for God to bless u,u pay it bcos u love God. Read Gen.14 and get d book financial stewardship by Andrew Warbok,u are one of d guy serving God under the law, serve him under Grace and pay ur tithe under Grace, with a different mindset dt God has already bless u and not dt u will die if u don’t pay it.

        • Laura Victor

it take’s the grace and wisdom of God to be a grate leader, it take’s wisdom to returned any amount of tithe paid by anyone, for instance we pay tithe because our pastors must have something to eat, maintenance of the church, caring for the less privileged and so on. may God help us to understand spiritual things. thank you.

          • sunshine

Worldly pastors, you re wrong in your understanding of “tithes”. Jesus died on the cross for us to have new lease in life. His death on the the cross with his precious blood has given us all the freedom not to worry about any more blood offerings by any pastor, but abundant grace to have direct close relationship with our creator God. Can anyone show in the bible where a pastor or priest accumulated wealth as our present day preachers while our widows, orphans and the poor are helpless.

          • Mike

God bless Pastor T.B Joshua and the Synagogue Church of all Nations, for their prayers and support to all people all over the world.

BUT SHE HAS OBEYED THE PRINCIPLE BY BRINGING THE MONEY TO CHURCH GOD WILL CERTAINLY BLESS HER FOR HER HEART REMEMBER ABRAHAM AND THE SON ISAAC. GOD DID NOT NEED TO ALLOW THE CHILD TO BE KILLED AND THEN BRING HIM BACK TO LIFE. OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFIES. TALKING ABOUT MALACHI 3 REMEMBER THE SCRIPTURES SAYS THE LETTER KILLETH BUT THE SPIRIT MAKETH ALIVE. LIKE YOU RIGHTLY SAID WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER THE LAW.

  • Biafra Must be Restored

Many people like this man and his ‘good heart’ even though many still doubt the authenticity of him being a ‘Yoruba’ man, (Knowing how selfish, pompous and callous Yorubas are), however, he places doubts on many people (About who he is hearing from) especially on Biafrans whenever he proclaim that ‘Nigeria’ the creation of agents of Satan (Britain) was
instead create by God, when in fact God has cursed the savages that use that bondage to hold His children!

If you know TB Joshua or those close to him, tell him to stop involving God in the clear work of Satan ‘Nigeria’! God does not create bondage or subjugation of His people under Luciferian worshippers (Islam) but Freedom and justice!

It is important to note that the bible position is very clear & if one pays his tithe it is meant for the things of God e.g the payment of bills, rendering of succour to the needy,& the maintainance of the house of God.If a Man of God who represent God here on earth waive the collection of tithe that does not mean the blessing as promise by God to those who pay their tithes will not be fulfill.Note too that there is nothing wrong with paying your tithe beyond the recommended 10% but must not be below 10%.We must as a people learn to appreciate God for the good around us just as we condenm the evil around us.

  • udoudo mama

Tithes payment is not optional neither is it the place of anybody to waive it for anybody

        Malachi 3:10

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

      • udoudo mama

        Malachi 3:8-10

Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we
robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a
curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full
tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And
thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

    • Emmanuel

Go & study the bible again then you will appreciate the very reason and purpose of tithe payment.

You must be deaf and blind if all u see and know is that everyone is same like u, doing what u do and believe same as u do, we shouldn’t just base our perception on what we believe alone but believe that no matter how plp behave someone can still make a big difference. Watch what u say against men of God, Blc u will dealt with on d last day of judgement.

well in my own opinion refusing the tithe from the woman is not helping the woman because every of our giving is to profit the giver not the man God.Gods blessing for those that pay their tithe goes behond physical blessing. In mal 3.11 as a result of your tithing he will rebuke devourer for your sake.that means even sickness that may devourer your finance God will rebuke that because you are tither.Your tithe is resources we give to God in other to process our blessing.

    • remii

A man of God can decide to return tithe. Remember prophet malachi did not reference tithe, it was tithe and offering and we have seen in a scripture where moses told people to stop bring offering because they have recieved more than enough. Do not also forget what tithe is meant for, that it is meant for the levite. the woman has obeyed God by presenting it

    • Emmanuel

The refusal doesn’t prevent the blessing from God.What will you make of a tithe paid from the proceeds of crime?Blessing comes from God who sees the heart of the payee not necessarily on what is paid.

      • Riot50000

        your opinion.

  • Bonny

Are we saying N500k represent 10% of her entitlement? Or 10% of her entitlement is included in the N500k. If so, she needs to separate the portion of 10% of her gratuity from the N500k. Interest generated from savings of her gratuity is what tithe is applicable. We must be careful not to take out of capital which is not yielding income or interest and we say we are paying tithe. Capital depletion by way of donation or tithe is not an obedience to biblical injunction. Will anyone pay tithe if your church raised money for you during service to enable you start a business? You can only pay tithe when capital raised by church members starts yielding income. Capital must be intact. A farmer does not tithe from farm seedlings but from the fruits harvested. Religion is the opium of the people.

Hello my name is kim Am from china, …HIV has been ongoing in my family for long..I lost both parents to HIV. As we all know medically, there is no solution or cure for HIV and the cost for Medication is very expensive. Someone introduced me to a man (Native Medical Practitioner) in Africa called Dr olori. I showed him all my Tests and Results and I told him that i have already been diagnosed of HIV and have spent thousands of dollars on medication. I said I will like to try him cause someone introduced me to him. He asked me sorts of questions and I answered him correctly. To cut the story short, He gave me herbal medicine {in liquid and he thought me how am going to use them all. At first I was skeptical but I just gave it a try. I was on his Medication for 7 to 8 days and I used all the herbs according to his prescription. That he will finish the rest himself. And I called him 3 days after, I arrived and I told him what is the next thing he said, he has been expecting my call. He told me to visit my doctor for another test.
