LETTER: Nigerian govt must stop provoking Shiite Muslims; We’re focused on martyrdom

Shiite muslims in Zaria
Shiite muslims in Zaria

We in the Islamic Movement In Nigeria, under the blessed guidance of Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqub Zakzaky, are orderly and peace-loving people.

This is based on our core mission of establishing a peaceful, just, and ideal Islamic government replica of Sheikh Usman bin Fodio’s mischievously called Sokoto or Fulani dynasty. Also a replica of Iranian Islamic government.

We are aspiring to uproot the corrupt, unjust, and exploitive order established by colonial masters, which never had our interest as a nation at heart. With this sublime mission and vision, we can never afford to undermine the importance of peace and orderliness.

Even our informed opponents and non-Muslim friends and neighbours who attend our programmes and rallies have attested to this. Our membership spans across all ethnic groups in Nigeria and beyond. And they ranked from school pupils to university professors. And from artisans to skilled professionals in both public and private sectors of the nation’s economy.

Our activities touch all aspects of life – education, economy, community projects, sanitation, security vigilance, voluntary health service through our outfit, ISMA, to mention but few.

Thus orderliness and peace are core cardinals of our movement as aforementioned. And throughout our almost four decades of activities (from the mid 70s till date), there is no evidence that violence has even been associated with us. On the contrary, we have been victims of violence by almost all successive governments in Nigeria who choose to see us as a potential challenge to their embedded corrupt tendencies inherited from the selfish colonial system that gave birth to them.

A glaring example of innumerable atrocities and violation of our freedom of expression committed against us is the cold blooded attack carried out by western powers, teleguided by government through its army yesterday(25/72014). The unprofessional army yesterday heartlessly opened fire on our peaceful rally organised in solidarity with Palestinian people in Zaria.

Similar rallies were conducted in 22 cities in Nigeria and ended peacefully. Lagos and Port Harcourt inclusive. The army killed about 35 of our members in cold blood in Zaria, women and children inclusive. Among them are three illustrious sons of our revered leader; Mahmud, Ahmad and Hameed Zakzaky(RIP). This is a replica of what Israel is doing to

native Muslims and Christians of occupied Palestine. This same government and its army, in league with some unscrupulous media outfits, later turned round to shamelessly accuse us of having and using fire arms against the army.

Please, is it thinkable that anybody that intends to exchange fire with an army will bring along his wife and children? And if that accusation is anywhere near the truth, let the army show the world its casualties as we showed our killed, wounded and arrested members.

We therefore, are calling on the government to unconditionally release our arrested members and the bodies of our members murdered in cold blood held in their custody. So also they should desist from provoking us through further harassment. And they should note that no antagonism from them can never deter us in the smallest way from our mission. We are determined to pay same price as prophets and saints; martyrdom. And a word is said to be enough for the wise.

Ndayy Beloved, a member of the Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky-led Islamic Brotherhood in Nigeria, sent this to us through our Facebook page

  • Like most churches in Nigeria, the Roman Catholic church contradicts the Scripture on many teachings and practice of theirs.

The following is from my article “No Images”:

… In the Jewish Scripture (Old and New Testament), there’s no where anyone who had an encounter with God made a painting or drawing or image or picture of the God of Israel who conversed with them. The apostles didn’t do that with Jesus. According to the Hebrew God, any such painting or drawing is an abomination. However, for non-Jewish religions/cultures, paintings, drawings, images and pictures are essential to their spirituality. It’s pagan, not Christian.

No angel is restricted to a particular appearance. They take one form/appearance at one time and appear in another form at another time. Evil spirits do that too, not just the holy angels. God the Creator has no particular physical form, face or appearance. Jesus said “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24). The true-Jesus doesn’t identify Himself by a particular physical appearance, face or form.

People honour various imaginations or deceitful spirits and falsely title it with the name of a servant of God (e.g., “Mary”, or “archangel Michael”), but the true God doesn’t want those who are His to have any idol or image whether physical or mental. Exodus 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth”. God used Jeremiah to rebuke those who were adoring other spirits instead of the God of Israel alone. They usually also had physical images (moldings or carvings) that represent whatever spirits they had allowed to capture their mind. Following a deceitful spirit, they titled one of their idols “Queen of Heaven”: Jeremiah 7:18-20 “The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven, and they pour-out drink offerings to other Gods, that they may provoke Me to anger. Do they provoke Me to anger?’ says the LORD. ‘Do they not provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces?’ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out on this place—on human being and on animal, on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and not be quenched.”

Today, many so-called “Christian” and many churches (e.g., Catholic churches, Celestial Church of Christ, Eastern Orthodox, etc) continue that same tradition which the God of Truth warned against from ancient times. They falsely use the name “Mary” to draw people into honoring an imagination or a deceitful spirit which they call “Holy Mary” or “Our Lady of Fatima” or “Mother of God” or “Madonna and the Christ child”, etc. God condemns it as a very evil thing.

Rather than symbols, images, religious pictures, or imaginations, look at what the true God wants: Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “And these Words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write these Words on the doorposts of your house and on your gates [and walls].”

4:12-20 “And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form, you only heard a voice. So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments … Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when YAH spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the
fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth. And be careful, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, moon, and stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given to all the nations under the whole heaven as a heritage. But the Lord has taken you [the
Jews] and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be His people, an inheritance, as you are this day.”

    Destroy Your Pictures of Jesus:
2Corinthians 5:7 “… we walk by faith, not by sight”. 1Peter 1:7-9 “that the genuineness of your faith … may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith–the salvation of your souls.” John 20:29 “Jesus said to him, ‘Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” 2Corinthians 4:18 “… we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For
the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” That’s true Christianity, no images. …

How exactly does your so called article relates with what you have read here? if your intention is to write on a different topic, why not publish seperately on a different page instead of posting as a comment here?

      • To: Matt

It seems you didn’t read the first 5 lines of this article by Adeolu Ademoyo.

    • Andybest

I love dis ur write up, but is not d subject matter.

      • It seems you didn’t read the first 5 lines of this article by Adeolu Ademoyo.

    • Nana

Thanks for the write-up but that is not the issue here please.
Let’s learn focus in this life. If he hadn’t mentioned that he was Catholic I wonder what else you might have picked on just to indulge that evil desire to rubbish people continually. If you are this well-versed in the scriptures I’m sure you know better ways to communicate same

  • Jakes

How did Mr Ademoyo find himself in the editorial board of Premium Times? This shows the kind of people manning newspaper houses today in Nigeria. No wonder rumours swirl like dustmotes in this country. Why not, when newspaper owners are sponsored to affirm such rumours. Ademoyo has not said anything new, neither has he added any insight into the conversation. In other countries, no one will be talking about Pastor Ayo as this doesn’t concern him at all. But Buhari’s propagandists will have us believe that CAN is behind Boko Haram. He will do and say anything to denigrate the Christian and his faith. I’m ashamed that Mr. Ademoyo has allowed himself to be used in this way by the murk bearers of APC. Mr Adeolu Ademoyo should be ashamed of himself.

  • A.K.SAMSON

Irrespective of how much some defenders of the veracity of this disgraceful incident want to wish it away, facts are facts. You can carryon deluding themselves. Those who trade in the name of Jesus have him to answer to.
Recall what he did to the money changers in the temple? Irest my case.

  • Laddi

He didn’t have to start from ‘I am a Catholic’ beginning for crying out loud!!! I read that sentence and was surprised he wrote what he wrote! Very disappointing!!! Not worth my time, am sorry!

  • wode

When things are done with God-consciousness out of the equation, then credibility and integrity can descend so low to the lowest of the abyss. It’s most unfortunate that this has to be said of many people claiming strong faith in God.

  • the_adviser

Shiite and Sunni Muslims need not bring their problems to the country. Sunnis is in overwhelming majority in Nigeria.

    • joshua

If you have the majority so what? The minority should do what?

  • OmoNaija nimi

You cowards hide with your guns behind women & children to shoot at innocent Nigerians. Your evil has turned on your head. Much more of you will die if you don’t change yours ways.
