The head of the Intelligence Division of Mexico’s Federal Police, Eduardo Pequeno, has been fired due to the escape of drug cartel leader, Guzman `El Chapo’ Loera.
A source within the Federal Police announced the news Wednesday, saying the position would be taken over by Damian Canales Mena, who was previously the Secretary of Public Safety of the State of Mexico.
Loera’s escape from the Altiplano federal penitentiary has caused uproar among the Mexican public.
Many of them have called for the resignation of the national security cabinet, made up of members from the Secretariat of the Interior, the National Commission of Security, and the Office of the General Prosecutor.
Mexican president has ordered that the fleeing drug baron be re-arrested with immediate effect.
