The Board of Directors Office of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange on Wednesday named Ato Ermias Eshetu as its Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Eshetu comes with an experience garnered through various leadership positions held locally and abroad.
Since 2007, he has served as an Executive Management Member at Zemen Bank, where he rose to his most recent position as Vice President for Marketing & Corporate Services.
The new Commodity Exchange boss received his Masters in International Business from Manchester School of Management and a Bachelor degree in Computation at UMIST, in the United Kingdom.
Over the past 20 years, he has worked at multinational organization such as IBM, Alcatel, Orange and MicroStrategy.
Mr. Ermias’s background in Software Engineering and as a Principal Consultant in Business Intelligence systems afforded him the opportunity to acquire skills that enabled him to integrate real business challenges with practical information technology lead solutions.
With his wide-ranging professional experience abroad in Europe and the United States, and most recently in Ethiopia at Zemen Bank, Mr. Eshetu brings enormous technical and managerial knowhow that would take the Exchange to new levels of performance and growth.
“I believe in a practical application of technology and market-based institutions in our path to transform the agricultural based economy,” the new CEO said shortly after his appointment.
He was optimistic that through technology, strong partnership with the private sector, and enhanced exposure to international best practices, the Exchange would remain relevant and continue to deliver new innovations in service.
For Chief Compliance Officer, Ato Habtewold, who served acting CEO since January 2014, he would continue on his role since January 1, 2015. (APO)
