A United Kingdom-based group, Nigeria 2015, has said it would support the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the coming elections to provide alternative government in Nigeria next year.
The group, in a statement on Thursday, denounced the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying 16 years was enough for it to turn the country around.
The statement was signed by its Lead Officer, Planning and Communication, Kingsley Ogbonda and the Lead Officer, Liaison and Canvassing, Ladi Vera-Cruz.
The group noted that since the present democratic journey started in Nigeria in 1999, the PDP had not seriously tackled any of the big challenges confronting the country, despite its enormous spread and national resources at its disposal.
It said, “There is no aspect of Nigeria’s public live that have noticed significant improvements under PDP. The educational system continues to churn out ill-educated and unemployable graduates. The hospitals remain miserably ill equipped. Roads and transport system remain in dilapidated condition.
“The security of lives and properties of citizens continues to elude the PDP government as demonstrated by the activities of Boko Haram and kidnappers. All public institutions of the state, including the judiciary are stripped of their powers, staffed with the incorrigibly corrupt and rendered useless.”
It said in return, Nigerians had witnessed an unlimited stealing of public assets, ineptitude and salacious details of debauchery in high places.
According to the group, the shameless exploitation of the nation’s fault lines of religion and ethnicity had been the modus operandi of the PDP-led government, adding that the concept of law and order for PDP were completely lost.
It alleged that constitutional provisions were treated as null and void “as the financially induced Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) campaigned with reckless abandon.”
“We of the Nigeria 2015 Group believe that sixteen years is enough time for any serious party to re-engineer and make good Nigeria, or at least show its serious intention to re-order the country for good,” the group said.
“PDP has failed to do this. Ask any seriously minded Nigerian, not the ignoramuses that pranced around at the illegal and offending TAN rallies, what they think of four more years of a PDP government? The answer would be – despair and God forbid!”
