A suicide car bombing killed three policemen and injured six others in Russia’s volatile North Caucasus region on Thursday, according to the Interfax news agency.
The vehicle packed with approximately 120 kg of TNT exploded at a checkpoint in the town of Khasavyurt in the province of Dagestan.
The blast, which also killed the bomber, tore a two metre deep crater into the ground.
Clashes between police and Islamist radicals seeking to establish an independent state are common in the Caucasus, which includes the former war-torn republic of Chechnya.
