Muhammad Babandede, has been appointed Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
His appointment which was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari after his predecessor, Martin Abeshi, was asked to retire on Wednesday, May 18.
Mr. Abeshi was appointed CGI on August 27, 2015, after holding the position in an acting capacity for six days.
Until his appointment, Mr. Babandede was in charge of the Operations and Passport Directorate of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Olusegun Ajibola, Professor and faculty dean at the Caleb University, has been inaugurated the 19th President of Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIBN).
His election was held in Lagos on May 14, 2016
Before now he was First Vice President between 2014 and 2016, Second Vice President, 2012-2014 and National Treasurer, 2008-2010.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Ajibola advocated effective demand management strategy, as well as import substitution policy, as solution to the lingering foreign exchange crisis..
Lauretta Obakpolo, a 400-level Pharmacy student, has been elected President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
She won the election after beating five other candidates with 2,283 votes.
Immediately the electoral committee declared her winner, her supporters moved round the campus singing victory songs.
It was gathered that before the election, many students did not give her any chance of winning, but managed to turn the table on the day she unveiled her manifesto.
Benjamin Ozumba, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was conferred with the 2016 Kwame Nkrumah Africa Leadership Award in Education, Medicine and Societal Development.
The ceremony was held on Monday, May 16, by the All Africa Students’ Union (AASU) at the Princess Elexandra Auditorium.
AASU Acting Speaker, Armstrong Ovie-Afabor, while presenting the award, said Mr. Ozumba was picked because of his “outstanding administrative track record” and “stellar antecedent” as a doctor.
“Our choice of Prof Ozumba for this noble award is a testimony of his dedication to research in Gynecology and general medicine, and also his prowess in university administration and management,” he said.
