Popular Yoruba actor, Ibrahim Chatta, married Nollywood starlet Lizzie Berry at an exclusive location in Lagos on Saturday.
So, you may ask what makes the actor’s star-studded wedding special? We will tell you.
The controversial yet talented actor is tying the knot for the third time. A good-looking actor, he is said to be a ladies’ man and one of the most sought-after actors in the industry, given his acting prowess.
His first marriage was to Olayinka Solomon and she bore him a son, Malik, in 2008.
She divorced him and accused Chatta of wife battery. She is allegedly currently married to an Igbo businessman. It was a messy separation.
In a series of interviews, which Chatta granted at the time, he maintained that his ex-wife, Solomon, never stayed at home or bothered to take care of their child.
In defense, Olayinka said, “We met on the set of Kunle Afod’s movie titled Tiwonsikanga in 2007. We started living together from 2008 and he was my first love. I have never dated any other guy in my life; he deflowered me and that was why I submitted my self to him.
“He was a womanizer, a gold digger who collected all the money in my account before I realised what was going on. Upon sensing that I was broke, he began misbehaving and bringing women into our house.”
Chatta soon found love in the arms of Salamatu, the daughter of a former governor of Kwara State, Shaaba Lafiagi. The couple had an elaborate traditional and Islamic wedding in December 30th, 2012.
The well-publicised wedding, which was graced by high net individuals, crashed like a pack of badly stacked cards. Also a messy separation, it was fraught with allegations bothering on infidelity and wife battery
According to those in the know, Chatta and Salamatu’s marital challenges arose as a result of what the latter and her family described as the “lowly lifestyle” the actor lived.
A silver spoon kid, Salamatu was not too pleased with the living conditions in Chatta’s home at Ikotun, a Lagos suburb.
Insiders say, her mother, a former First Lady, had once visited the estranged couple’s home and was distraught at the poor living conditions of her daughter; it didn’t match the affluent upbringing that she had been used to.
Salamatu was said to have moved out of the home.
Ibrahim Chatta’s third shot at matrimony was initially shrouded in secrecy as information about the union was leaked barely a week to the wedding.
The wedding, it was learnt, was prompted by Lizzie Berry’s pregnancy for the actor. She is said to be in the first trimester of her pregnancy.
When contacted, the soft-spoken actor simply said, “I don’t discuss my love life or marriage in the media. Thank you.”
