2015 Abuja film festival to showcase economy, security

A Nollywood producer, Fidelis Dukar, on Thursday said the 2015 Abuja International Film Festival, AIFF, would be used showcase the need to diversify the country’s economy and on security.

Mr. Dukar, who is organising the 12th edition the film festival, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that it would hold from October 27 to October 30 at the Silverbird Cinema, Abuja.

He said that just as every festival was a platform for networking, the 12th edition of AIFF would also be used to showcase events that would promote the nation economically and showcase the need for security to attract investors.

“Abuja International film festival is aimed at enhancing cultural diversity by bringing Nigerian independent movie productions to audiences.

“We are making huge utilisation of this year’s own to bring out and recognise the creative industry such as music, films, the arts, publishing and other forms of the creativity in the economy.

“This is to create more avenues for employment and generating employment, which is to encourage the change every Nigerian is canvassing for. This will be seen as a major platform for employment.

“The festival is not just to come and sit down to networking, the films also is to inspire people, ranging from documentary films to features films.

“All these films and themes also have a way of affecting the society positively.

“We will make sure we programme our films in such a way they have societal values, thereby affecting the society and people.

“From Kannywood, film industry in the northern part of the country, we are expecting producers and actors, who will address the security challenges in the North through films.

He said nominees were selected and screened from over 700 films. The films were grouped into 16 categories and about 60 films will be premiered.
“Winners will be announced at the festival’s award ceremony scheduled to hold on October 30 at the Silverbird Cinema Abuja,” he said.
